MS D1 schools in the National Championship game/series

I've asked this question elsewhere, but perhaps someone here may have a definitive answer for me- is this run by the Dawgs the first time that a University from the state of Mississippi has placed a team in an NCAA recognized Division I national championship games/series? I'm talking team sports (individual track NCs, for example, wouldn't count)

Don't use the word "recognized" when stating that fact to a Rebel. The NCAA does "recognize" one of UMiss' football titles. Correctly stated, this is the first NCAA team championship for any Mississippi school.

If we win its the first title win by a team from MS in a title game. However we are not the first to play in a national title in a team sport from MS. First in a major sport
