Don’t know why last post got locked up but since all this has been in the news I did some digging and realized the state passed a law a few years ago that MS residents can have a MS made suppressor without all the paperwork as long as it stays in the state. Anybody know who makes them in the state?

I don’t know that answer but,
Why would anyone want a suppressor /Silencer ?
Just wondering..
Most people use them along with hearing protection. It doesn't silence your gun like in the movies. It does reduce the noise, direct the blast away from you, and reduce recoil, thus making it easier to make ethical shots on game. I have hearing loss from shooting in the dove field and in the deer woods. Meanwhile, the Europeans all use suppressors for the reasons I've listed.

I would like to have one. I have a couple acres and there are 20+ acres of pasture/some trees behind me (not mine unfortunately). Coyotes, foxes, even a bobcat have come into my yard from this land. But, I'm in city limits and packed in neighborhoods are just across the road and some beside me. I would like to be able to handle my business properly when these wild animals come on my property and threaten chickens, dogs, cats. Currently I use a high powered pellet gun. Works great for coons, stray cats, and such but wouldn't be my weapon of choice for larger intruders. Even just a 22 with suppressor would be better.

Two reasons. A fired bullet makes sound twice. Once is the explosion of the gunpowder, the bang. If the explosion is small enough then a good suppressor will catch the expanding gasses and muffle that sound. The second sound , the crack, is the sound of the bullet breaking the sound barrier which can’t be silenced at all because that sound doesn’t occur until the bullet has left the barrel and is down range. For a subsonic round, .22 lr, 9 mm, or 45 acp you can almost control all the explosive gasses and make it sound like a movie silencer, almost. This is advantageous to a small game hunter such as squirrels or coons because the first shot doesn’t make the entire woods go silent. It’s also handy if you live in a congested area to dispatch garbage can raiding coons without waking the wife or neighbors This brings us to the supersonic rounds. A suppressor can mitigate most if not all the powder explosion but not the supersonic crack as the bullet exceeds the speed of sound. Since the supersonic crack occurs down range it is not as sharp or damaging to your hearing and if you mitigate the explosion you can conceivably shoot without hearing protection in a hunting situation where you need your full hearing. I grew up and shot guns in a time when hearing protection was an afterthought. Had I a gun with a suppressor I might be able to hear the TV today or hear dinner conversation in a crowded restaurant. Hollywood, TV, and media has vilified something that should be required on every gun used in a practice or training situation.

Currently there are no commercial manufactured suppressors in the state that I am aware of. It would apply to individuals manufacturing for personal use. Personally I'm not pushing the limits and interpretations on state vs federal law. My wive loves our dog too much to put its life at risk :ROFLMAO:.

For those that don't know the ATF is notorious for shooting dogs.

I am afraid this question will lead to this thread getting locked, but I am going to ask it anyway because I am honestly curious. I don't keep a close watch on these kinds of laws. What is the virtue of a ban on a suppresor? Do people honestly think banning them has an impact on crime? Why would someone think that?

It’s all about perception, reality has nothing to do with the ban on suppressors.

What is your method for telling a stray cat from someone's pet just out doing cat things like killing rodents for you?

My great grandparents are buried in Van Fleet. My grandfather bought a farm in Monroe county in the 1920’s Don’t really know anything about the family in Chickasaw county other than a few headstones in a cemetery.

Potential neighbor's pets get a shot in the but from a Red Ryder BB gun. The BB gun is a warning the second time is a 22. I've caught a two cats jumping up on my truck and my outdoor kitchen. The BB gun was enough of a warning for both of them.

Bottom Line is a suppressor doesn't make a gun more lethal. It doesn't increase the fire power or rate of fire. It actually improves safety for people who shoot by making the decibels lower.

Just a thought, if you REQUIRED a suppressor on all guns would it be harder to carry it concealed? If I have another 2 or 3 inches on the barrel of my HK CC9 it would be tough to carry. You couldn't really have the sub compacts and pocket pistols. So for gun control folks suppressors might actually fall in line with their goals.

There are many people who've never shot a gun. Probably many on this board. Quit badgering those who don't just because you do. It's their choice and I'm fine with it just like I'm fine with people who do shoot and hunt a lot.

I don't just shoot every cat that wonders in. But if there are kittens, daddy toms will often try to come kill them. During those times, I eliminate the tom so that my momma cat doesn't get beat up trying to defend.

Propaganda. Your average idiot doesnt realize television isnt reality, they see the bad man shoot someone on tv with a suppressor thats so quiet it wouldnt wake a sleeping baby. Its not much deeper than that.

I have quite a few friends that have to either have a depredation permit for deer or have to kill hogs constantly to keep them off the crops, and both are more suited to be shot at night when they’re more active so having a suppressor helps cut down on the nuisance noise of shooting multiple rounds to either kill deer or hogs.

Ten thousand years from now when archaeologists excavate the property I lived on they are going to assume that some cult lived their that routinely sacrificed cats and coons in some kind of pagan ritual.

There is no such thing as a "silencer"

The role of a suppressor, no matter the stigma that many morons put on it, is noise suppression. That's it. That's what that scary thing does.

Why do we as a state always have to make things more difficult? We are literally the only NFA state in the South. Seems if there is a right way and a wrong way to do something we always choose the wrong way.

Are you kidding me?? Are you discharging your weapon inside city limits or other areas with human populations just to kill coons and squirrels. I believe that their are other methods beside a messy kill to correct the problem. Do your neighbors wear Kevlar when jogging or biking?

Never thought I would see the city folk / country folk thing rear it's ugly head here with a bunch of Mississippi folk. Damn Hicks.

I believe there are city hicks and country hicks. They only understand that way of living and tend to berate those who don't live like they do.

Exaggerate much? Anyone with just a little common sense isn’t wildly spraying bullets in a neighborhood.

I am as left leaning as it gets around here. A gun suppressor is an inanimate object that makes gun ownership better for its owners and there is no evidence that making them legal increases crime.

They are no different than a hammer or screw driver to me, a useful tool.

I am not a hunter as I sucked at hunting. Why did I suck so badly? No patience and I am legally blind. No one noticed until I was 13. Here’s a hint, don’t give the blind kid a gun! He may shoot it!
