For those old enough to remember, he was one of the premier players of the 70's and early 80's. He had a five or six year period where he absolutely dominated the NL. Guy had an absolute cannon in right field. He was supposed to be inducted into Cooperstown next month. Just horrible he never lived to see it. He should've already been in.

I remember watching him play in the seventies and eighties. I did not know he was from Mississippi. Sad to hear of his passing.

Saw him play at Busch Stadium against the Cardinals in June of 1977
My first MLB game
Cards lost that day 1-9
Both Pirates and Cards had a lot of good players on those teams.

He always had a big wad of gum in his mouth and his mouthed moved faster than any mouth I've ever seen when he chewed it.
