We get excited about the Dandy Dozen players, and i love that we will go after the best MS players, but what if they aren't as good as other states? Just trying to get an idea of how good our HS football talent is compared to other local states. For someone who follows high schools closely, would love to hear from you.

Unless I am reading it wrong, the draft years are only for 1988 - 1997. The last 10 years may or may not have been as good. 2% of draft choices back then.

The key words being per capita. That is fine and well but the real numbers are the totals. Look at Alabama. They have more NFL players than MS. In addition, I bet UA and AU keep a much % of future NFL talent than MSU and OM keep in MS.

Another interesting fact (I assume fact as UPigs Rivals guy said it over the radio) I heard this weekend. The Swine was discussing the benefits of playing in the SWC Classic in Dallas. This person said that the Dallas metro area produces 350 FBS scholarship players a year. That is amazing. I imagine that is more than the entire state of MS.

So my point, yes MS produces a lot of good athletes. But not near the number of other states. So, it isn't if MS talent is any better than anywhere else. It is. However, there just isn't as many.

With that said though, how 17ing hard is it to find 6' guys that can run? It pisses me off Croom could not find any better athletes for that secondary. I can understand the difficulty in finding 6'5" 300lbs lineman. But DBs and a QB ever now and then should not be that damn difficult.

Numbers are numbers. If MS has 4 guys per year with NFL potential, that is still less than the 10, 15, or however many FL has, I don't care what percentage that is of your state's population. Add to the low number of potential recruits the fact that there are 3 DIV-I schools in the state and LSU + UA next door, and it just comes up to a bad equation for MSU.

Now, I am with Mullen on MSU having untapped talent. There is a lot of under-coached, under-developed, under-recruited talent in MS. There are big time players playing in small schools flying under the radar in MS. They just have to be found, tutored, and coached.

Per the article I linked, MS has 42 players in the NFL. The article lists the 14 states with the most players in the NFL and the 14th state has 43 players, so MS would be 15th in terms of number of players in the NFL.

We'd have to produce twice the talent that they do now when you consider only one BCS school, that's forgetting all the built in respect that high school players garner in the state of LA when they get an offer from LSU. As much as that numbers sounds great, it shows me just how far behind the eight ball we are compared to our competition.

Miss top 10 is as good as any 10 ten in any states but thats where we fall off. States like Texas, Fl and California have 30 kids that could be in our top ten.

like LSU has. Considering the NFL talent that state produces and the fact LSU is the only major in-state football school, they should at least be neck and neck with Alabama for all-time SEC titles and wins, if not ahead of them.

But it appears to me that if you click on the link and then by High School and State it shows 137 players from MS drafted from 1988 thru 2009. If you change the timeliine to 1988-1997 it changes to 71 players.
