http://www.baltimoresun.c...mith0909,0,1408430.story Marylander Janet Marie Smith will rejoin the Orioles as vice president of planning and development, and will lead the club's renovation of its new spring training facility in Sarasota, Fla., the team announced in a news release. Smith, a Roland Park resident, will also oversee upgrades at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in her new position with the organization. She was instrumental in the design and construction of Camden Yards during her time as the Orioles' vice president of design and development from 1989 to 1994. Smith recently led preservation and improvement efforts at Fenway Park as the senior vice president of planning and development with the Boston Red Sox, a position she held for eight years.

I know her and her family pretty well. I am fairly certain she did not do work on the Yankee stadium in her position as Red Sox VP, which is from where she just came (I could be wrong, though). She also is going to be working on the Rose Bowl. She's a great person and has a great family.

Last I heard she was headed to Los Angeles to work on that dump of a Coliseum...and the restoration project around it. Big money and a budget that was just as big.

Perhaps that was a negotiation ploy to get the Orioles to come up off the cash to keep her. Either that, or she didn't want to make the kids change schools.

Ha! Yes, it was. I believe she is going to oversee the Rose Bowl project in the loosest sense, but work full time for the Orioles as VP. From what I understand -- hey, my first Six Pack rumor -- she was not happy with the Red Sox management, especially John Henry's dumping his wife and marrying his new young un. As a Red Sox fan, I hate to hear that and hate to see her go. Here's a link for her taking the Rose Bowl job, but not a mention of the Orioles: http://www.boston.com/business/arti..._credited_with_saving_fenway_park_steps_down/
