I don't think you will see Vickerson at second base. I think he will be our primary DH, though. It seems like Sam Frost is the leader at second for now, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Adam Frazier and Demarcus Henderson platoon there by season's end.
Daryl Norris probably is our third baseman of the future, but next year, I think he will see more time at first base than anywhere else next year.
Cody Freeman and Wes Thigpen figure to split time behind the plate.
Statz might be in the rotation to start SEC play, but I expect him to start out in the midweek spot to try to build his arm up, and I expect either Chad Girodo, Kendall Graveman, or maybe even Evan Mitchell to start on Sundays to start the year- bear in mind that we have two four game series on the first four weekends.
I think Caleb Reed will be a big part of our bullpen. I don't think he will be the closer, though. Right now, I think Hunter Renfroe is earning the closer role, so I think he will get the nod there.

in his last scrimmage. He was topping out at 89. He's not back to where he was, but it was pretty encouraging. I think he could pitch this year at some point if we want him to.

We would need three Stephen Strasburg type starters, a lights out closer, and a 1985 MSU offense for that to happen.
And 17-9 non-conference. The schedule is a lot easier, and despite losing most of our offensive production, we should win at least 5 more non-conference games. That puts us around .500. The pitch staff is healthier and more experienced, and that will get us another 5 SEC games. I'm saying 32-35 wins. </p>
I don't know how bad it is, but somebody told me his velocity had dropped 5-7 mph this summer. Hopefully its not anything too bad.
conference were way down last fall with the new dead bats in place this year for college baseball. That has to be to our advantage since we're not a hr hitting team anyway. If Routt is healthy this year and the soph from Tupelo continues to improve we will have a good team this year.
I'm starting to think that once we recruit a guy that's a pitcher, we need to put them in a hermeitcally sealed mayonaisse jar.

I used to follow MSU baseball religiously growing up and through college, but since I graduated I haven't kept up in 4 years. What guys are supposed to be our good players (highly recruited)? I ask because I don't recognize many names on the roster.

At the end of the year, Fitts threw something like 150 pitches in the championship series in the Alabama state playoffs. I think he pitched in relief some too- over a three day span. I can't remember all of the details because its been about 8 months since I read the story.
But know that he threw a ton of pitches in a short period of time. That may be why his velocity was down. Hopfully, the drop in velocity is from fatigue, but it's certainly something to watch this spring.

Haven't we also lost a few guys over the past couple of years that were supposed to be contributors, but either got injured or didn't pan out?
But we're relatively healthy right now. Ben Bracewell and CC Watson were highly rated in high school, and came to us injured. That was pretty frustrating.

Fitts was an arm endur ance case study in the play offs. He beat Spain Park with 95 pitches on a Friday and repeated the decision with 99 pitches the follow ing Monday. He then beat Grissom with 70 pitches on three days rest in the quar terfinals.
He blew the save after 23 pitches against Gris som the next day. That added up to 286 pitches, 21 innings and just four earned runs between April 23 and May 1.
