Our momentum in getting MSU car tags here has all but stopped. If you know any State fans in Alabama, please don't hesitate to make sure they know we still need people to make this commitment. If they balk at the price, ask them to please do it for just a year...this is the opportunity we've been working towards for years, and we have to get over that 1,000 mark.

I know. Disappointing. Put pressure on your friends. No one should ***** about the price, it's $50 bucks.

Where are we at? Last I heard we only had like 250 of the 1,000. That's pathetic, considering the number of MSU fans in Huntsville and Birmingham alone.

If you go to the link, it's at 488 out of 1000 required. We signed up for one near when they first came out and it was just over 300 then. Apparently hasn't been a lot of activity since then.

I guess there are not as many fans here as I once thought. I live in Birmingham, and I always hoped we could be what Auburn is in Atlanta. Wishful thinking I guess. Or maybe folks don't care about car tags.

It's probably more about something that requires effort and money. There were more than 1,250 addressable MSU households in central Alabama alone about 8 years ago. I haven't tried to get a new count since then.

How much publicity has the pre-sale commitment campaign gotten? Has there been a social media campaign or discussion through the MSU alumni chapters in Alabama?

I wasn't aware that we needed to have a certain number of pre-sale commitments before the MSU car tags would be available for purchase. I thought they were becoming available this year, so I was just planning to purchase one when my tags expire in Oct. Now that I know, I will go ahead and commit to purchasing two of them.

It sounds like we need to get a social media campaign going to help get the word out about the pre-sale commitment deadline. Maybe we can get Scott Stricklin, SixPackSpeak, and Bulldogs Sports Radio to help out by spreading the word.

Please do. It would help the cause immensely.

I have noticed that there are an awful lot of MSU fans here that really do not know what is going on. Unattached to the University, if you will. We may very well just need to do a better job of getting the word out there. I have never been a big car tag guy, but I did commit to this, for nothing else, just to make a statement.

I was numbers 248 and 249, but that was months ago, I think the majority of people dont realize that the pre-commit is necessary. Birmingham could fill the 1000 commits needed in two weeks if more people knew about it.

I'm surprised you haven't received an email about it. I reserved mine months ago and I seem to get an email from one official MSU group or another damned near every other week.

I went to a Birmingham Alumni Association function back in May and they announced it. Problem is that not many alumni are involved in that chapter. Huntsville's is much stronger, especially considering per capita State fans. I don't know why not, but I'd like to change it. Unfortunately I don't have much power in that regard. Any suggestions are welcomed.

At this point I know the Birmingham and Huntsville chapters have gone to a lot of trouble to get the word out. Birmingham has done repeated e-mail, Facebook, and in-person announcements, and I'm sure Huntsville has done likewise....would be kind of surprised if the other chapters in the state haven't made similar efforts.
Also, the national alumni association has done several e-mails and a mail-out.
In short, everyone who has registered their contact info with the alumni association should have received some sort of notice.
The big problem is that I'd estimate at least half of our fans haven't registered/updated their info with the alumni association.
The other problem is that we haven't done a good job of explaining what is required. I know there was hope that we'd be a lot closer to the 1,000 mark by now, and we do still have time to adjust or try new approaches.

Huntsville has an amazing per capita participation rate. To be the size they are and only about 175 active alumni behind Birmingham is very impressive.
FYI for any other Birmingham locals, the alumni board here is always looking for volunteers. We've got 3 events coming up in August alone, so if anyone has got the bug to help, feel free to PM me.

Emails don't work. They need to add it to the Calling Center script.

"Thank you for your donation. Also, I noticed you live in Cullman, Al. Have you precommits for the MSU tag yet?"

meh, Im part of the problem here. Last time Mullen and Company came to town for the rubber chicken circuit, I was too lazy to drive the 6 minute trip to Greystone CC to see them. I keep season tickets and go to most games (despite being 17'd out of my long time held seats this year) but thats about the extent of it.

Nah, man. If you are buying tickets and car tags, you are doing your part. I think the biggest problem in Alabama is the number of State fans who just don't do anything. We need to do a better job of explaining to them why they should be involved with the Alumni Association and other things. Also need to do a better job of convincing MSU alumni from Alabama, to be MSU fans instead of sidewalk Alabama fans.
