I was in one of her classes during undergrad when she was diagnosed the first time and had her for another class while she was going through treatment. She was a great lady and woman. You'd of never known she was sick, cause she never let it bring her down. I can't ever thank her enough for some of the things she did for me. Definitely will be missed!!

I remained friends with Lora after I graduated in 1997. She taught me Quark and Feature Writing and she was a tough editor. However, she was a great friend. I was married and college with a young daughter and my wife and daughter would come and hang with us in class. Lora adored tehm, but she was just that way, treated everyone like family.

I've never understood how someone like Lora DeFore is taken too early, especially having to endure what she did. I've never understood it but it's reality. I know she has left thousands of memories for all who knew her.

Lora helped me more than any other person during my five years at MSU. She always let me know of the scholarship application deadlines and I got one each year of undergrad because of her. She asked me to be her grad assistant and teach her journalism labs because she knew the Communication department paid more than the Accounting department for grad assistants. When I decided to add a different major my junior year, she went out of her way to make sure I had the right contacts in other departments. She also let me do a self-study course under her so that I could graduate in four years since I was 3 hours shy. The self-study involved writing a 10 page paper on movies.

She truly went above and beyond for all her students. She loved MSU athletics and was a great supporter of them. I don't think I ever met anyone that did not like her. MSU and I have lost a great friend.

at Chapel of Memories from 1-3 in case anyone hasn't heard.

And to echo everyone above, Lora will be greatly missed. During my time as a CO major, Lora was the most upbeat person in the entire building and always made class fun. She was a great teacher and loved all of her students.

Don't know if any of you had him, but I did for calculus -- and for many hours it took for him to tutor me up to a D... Dr. Slay taught at MSU for about 30 years, but retired a few years ago. He passed away from cancer on Friday, and will be missed by everyone who knew him.

I loved this from his obit:

He was a Mississippi State Bulldog through and through, a season ticket holder for baseball and football and basketball, an ardent believer in the next season, the next win.

I took Trig and Calculus I from him-- barely making a C in Cal because I somehow kicked butt in the final exam. However when I failed Cal II, I switched majors to and got a degree in Communication (this was before DeFore started teaching at MSU).

And yeah, Slay loved his sports. I saw him at baseball and basketball games.

I dealt many a game to her back in my previous life working in the gaming industry in Philadelphia. She would come in with a couple of friends and stay the whole weekend playing for hours at a time. She was always a pleasure to deal to and always friendly. Ii also took a couple classes with her and concur with everything said previously.
