MSU mentality

I have been part of the MSU message board "community" for the past 30 years. Over the past two years I have been away for the most part due to various life circumstances. Recently, I have been a little more active and I have come to wonder if we are the most miserable fanbase in the country. I realize football success/failure drives the overall attitude and the past few years have been pretty miserable but even so it seems like we as a group incessantly gripe about every single aspect of our athletic program and university as a whole. Once again, yes there are certainly valid reasons to be dissatisfied with a lack of success but it seems to me that we tend to go even further than the circumstances dictate complaining about matters when we really don't know all the details or when we have no idea how a situation is going to turn out we automatically expect the worst. Maybe every fan base is like this but it seems like we are one of the worst per capita. But here is my main concern - MSU/Starkville often has a negative perception in many regards and I believe much of the time it is an unfair or inaccurate perception. I can't help but wonder if the general attitude of our fanbase across social media doesn't play at least a part in the national reputation of the university and community. Then again I may have no idea what I am talking about and probably need to fade back into oblivion. :)

I disagree. Most State fans are pretty positive about Starkville and get very defensive when outsiders criticize the town. The football team is another story...

There are always things to ***** about and things to praise. At any one time there are issues going on that has people praising and other bitching. It just seems to be negative all the time. This board will allow you to *****. That's a good thing.

I agree. I understand that I can overly optimistic compared to other people but if I was as negative as some of the people that I know I would not be a fan. They are never happy.

I would question about how much time you spend on other teams message boards? Penn State has won 10 games a year for awhile and they fired their coach. I would assume their message boards weren't very supportive of James Franklin. LSU fired a generally successful coach and 2 previous National Championship coaches. I bet their message boards weren't kittens and butterflies for those 3 guys. The tails of message boards all over the country, nay, the world, are filled with such stories.

To think the MSU fanbase is any different than other fanatics groups is just silly.

We have sunshine pumping boards especially for those that seek sunshine. Rosebowl gets fed the propaganda straight from the mouth of the University if that is the info that you seek, however that is not why this board exists

Yesterday I went into the men's room at work. Two guys were destroying it. I used my Jedi mind powers to convince myself it was a beautiful place. I even stayed a bit longer to deeply inhale. I met with similarly positive minded men for several hours and suggested that we return and gather here to enjoy the full experience. Together.

Mind over matter. Tony Robbins over Tony Soprano.

Don’t worry there’s a big reboot coming to the interwebs soon. That should clean it all up, and give us a chance to start over very positive. It is finally time for IT!!!

We got plenty of miserable 17s and some idiots to add to that, but its no different than other fan bases. When i was younger and really into arguing with morons on the internet i spent some time on OMspirit (yes i realize this makes me a moron as well). They are miserable too.

Misery loves company.

OP, don't miss this ^ point. State fandom is similar to the saying about your little brother - you can beat him up all you want, but don't let somebody else come in and touch him, or the fight is on.

Yes, we bittch and moan about our own teams, but let one red bowtie, collar-popping, loafer-with-no-socks-wearing pansy come into this forum and say something negative about State or Starkville and watch the claws come out. And that's how it should be.

I tend to look at the position give by the website. I read all the Heisman, All-Americans, and All Conference. If you are a new post-er, nah. I don’t waste my time with the fellows who jump through their ******* (pre-shitting) like a lot of the new guys do.

Since they took Krystals out of Starkville it has been down hill. Especially since they moved it from its initial location.

You're a great example. You don't say **** when things are going good.

People complain when they've got things to complain about and don't complain when there ain't much to complain about.

Well, the predominant answers seem to be that there is absolutely nothing good about Mississippi State University and since everyone else is negative we should be to. Carry on fellows!

Since our 2021 CWS…

Rather than capitalizing on the first team title in our school’s history, our championship winning baseball coach ran the program into the ground

Our basketball coach has continued our Post-Stansbury streak of zero NCAA tournament wins

Following a 9-win season and an off season that should have been filled with excitement, our head football coach died. We made a disastrous decision to replace him with an assistant who was immediately fired following a depressing 5-win season, and we then replaced him with a guy that has won one conference game in two years. One

If we manage to have any modicum of success in smaller sports, ADs that are alums from our own damn university are stealing the coaches

Oh, and everyone associated with this complete $hitshow from the ADs and coaches on down to our 3rd string QB are making wealth in a year that most of us may not see in ten years of 60 hr weeks.

We didn’t choose negativity. It(MSU)chose us

You keep missing the point idiot. It's not the sunshine pumping. It's the fact you literally disappeared from the board midgame once we went up 17-0 on Arizona State and didn't show your face again until we were 4-4.
