I have been part of the MSU message board "community" for the past 30 years. Over the past two years I have been away for the most part due to various life circumstances. Recently, I have been a little more active and I have come to wonder if we are the most miserable fanbase in the country. I realize football success/failure drives the overall attitude and the past few years have been pretty miserable but even so it seems like we as a group incessantly gripe about every single aspect of our athletic program and university as a whole. Once again, yes there are certainly valid reasons to be dissatisfied with a lack of success but it seems to me that we tend to go even further than the circumstances dictate complaining about matters when we really don't know all the details or when we have no idea how a situation is going to turn out we automatically expect the worst. Maybe every fan base is like this but it seems like we are one of the worst per capita. But here is my main concern - MSU/Starkville often has a negative perception in many regards and I believe much of the time it is an unfair or inaccurate perception. I can't help but wonder if the general attitude of our fanbase across social media doesn't play at least a part in the national reputation of the university and community. Then again I may have no idea what I am talking about and probably need to fade back into oblivion.
