heard the same thing recently. I think Dr. Watson would be a good choice but I think Mark Keenum would be the best choice. I hear his name tossed around alot but the hot name lately has been Dr. Watson.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to keep Watson on since he may have the ability to bring back that warm and fuzzy feeling to those who were burned by the changes that Doc made. If everything goes well because of Doc's changes, which I think they will, Watson could reap the rewards of those ideas and look like a saint. I just hope that he can be good enough to keep the status quo from creeping back in.

...and then followed by Keenum.

Keenum though needs to find another post to gain some more experience-- perhaps something similar to what he's doing now for the USDA in that he'd be managing something big for a few more years. Isn't his position a political appointee post?

and I think he has been be perfect salve to heal the wounds left by Dan Fogleberg, but he's going to give a lot of you coniptions who didn't like the public persona presented by Dr. Lee. Vance Watson is tremendous behind the scenes, but he will make Charles Lee look like Cicero by comparison when he speaks in public. He's not going to be a "face of the university" like Bob Khayat.

Mark Keenum, on the other hand, has the potential to be for MSU all the good things that Khayat has been for Ole Miss. And he will certainly emphasize athletic success. I'm not saying Keenum is the be all end all messiah for MSU, but I'm saying he has the potential to push MSU to the next level from a fundraising and university unity perspective. There may be others out there who could do the same too.

I would have no problem with Watson as our next president if he is the deserving candidate, but he might be the Tommy Raffo of the search. Like Raffo, he's digging his roots deep in the interim and will have a firm hold by the time decisions are made. It is yet to be seen if Keenum is the Cohen and if the IHL has the balls of Greg Byrne.</p>

baseball analogy there sir. I also submit praise for the Cicero name drop.

Is anyone hearing any names outside of these two? Watson and Keenum are the only names I hear. We need someone who is going to take advantage of the enrollment surge and athletic success we have enjoyed recently. Nothing makes me more frustrated than to hear the flagship title get thrown around by the U of M people. If any university can be considered a reliable cross-section of Mississippi it is without a doubt Mississippi State.

Kirk Schulz who is the former Dean of Engineering and the current Provost. He has some support from the upper level academia type who aren't aligning with Watson.

Schulz is no longer in the running, which was his choosing.

He isnt the Provost either, he is VP for Research and Economic Development.

18K or close. This freshmens class will be bigger than last year's record class. Doesn't have to do with the president thing, just something I picked up.
