This may be common knowledge and if so my bad, but if you have a Rivals subscription you can go here and scroll down to the bottom of the article to read for yourself. If you don't have one it basically says you guys might have a better than average shot at Barry Brunetti and that he is setting up a visit. If you guys flip that kid you might be looking at unprecedented QB depth in Starkville for the foreseeable future.

Could be a courtesy visit but the article does state that MSU has a much better chance of flipping Barry than anyone is actually leading on. It says Eugune is the QB of the future at WV aling with a dual threat they just signed. It also says Starkville is closer and playing time could come much quicker at MSU.

he seems to have a sentimental attachment with Pat White and WV but the much more logical choice given locale, offensive system and QB competition would seem to be MSU.

that being said, I don't believe in courtesy visits. If they visit, they have an interest in the school.

Think about the angle we can play on Brunetti. WVU has signed a boat load of dual-threat type QBs over the past few years. As previously mentioned, Eugene is their guy and is of the same mold as Barry. At MSU, we have Tyler Russell and Chris Relf. TR may end up being all-world for all I know and hope, but he's a different type of QB than Brunetti. Relf can't hit the broad side of a barn, he shouldn't be a threat. Mullen can sell Brunetti that he "fits the mold" of his preferred QB and that if he comes to MSU, he has a better shot at being the man than he would at WVU. There is a lot of truth to that and is a great angle to use to snag him.

**Before the TR and Favre coddlers attack, note that I didn't say anything bad about them. I'm just saying this is the angle we have on Brunetti and may be why he would be interested in us.**

That's gotta be a good sign for us. Also, Momma didn't go on his visit to Morgantown.

Most NBA players had a sentimental attachment with Jordan and the Bulls but I doubt they'd sign with the Bulls over other teams. Brunetti can slap on a #5 jersey and some of those eye blacks and emulate Pat in a maroon jersey.

I have to think that the possibility of more playing time would outweigh other considerations ..... besides we are due .... and then you mullen bashing types can focus on stansbury instead

"On the Hoof: Brunetti is short for the quarterback position, barely touching six feet. At that size, he is thick through the upper body and very strong, with almost a running back's build.
Needs Improvement: The biggest knock on Brunetti is his size. His height will limit his visibility and passing lanes on the next level. "

If we didn't like Tyson Lee and have questions about Favre, do we want another QB recruit under 6 ft.?

but he didn't really impress me that much. His throwing looked below average, even for high school

Granted, most of the highlights are from camps, so his passing may look different when he's on the field. But, it looks like he has a strong arm and a quick high release. That helps him out since he's on the short side. Short QB quick high release > Short QB slow side arm release.

Also, note they have another solid dual-threat QB committed to WVU. That could factor in as well.

ETA: I also watched the Panola game and had the same thoughts during the game as you. His arm didn't look that great in the game. I don't know if that was just an off night or what the cause was. At any rate, he looks good in that video and the scouts say he can make any throw on the field and may be undervalued as a passer. Not saying I agree or disagree, but just thought I'd link it for those who haven't seen anything on him yet.

You guys have the 5'10 and less QB market cornered.

As others mentioned, he didn't look great in the SP game, but you have to admit that he stepped up when needed. He looked like crap most of the game, but the few passes he completed were usually long 3rd down conversions.

Which is two inches taller than what Favre is listed as... I don't have a clue what to believe about either's true height.

As noted by some, his accuracy is not that great but he's gotten used to sitting in the pocket and working timing patterns really well. He played most of the season at MUS with a groin strain that severely limited his running. He's MUCH more capable of running a spread option running offense than he's showed this season and is a very good runner w/ a good build for taking hits. He likely would improve on his passing accuracy w/ good coaching but he'd already be physically able to step into this type of offense much more quickly than a drop back passer would.

No prospect is perfect and his height is a question mark but in y'all's offensive scheme, he'd be in the perfect setting. If I was an MSU fan I'd be very excited about the prospect of getting him and if you do sign him it's a very, very good sign.

UT offered Nash Nance yesterday after he verbally committed to Vandy, ostensibly to get at D. Rogers, who committed to UGA.
Just sayin': if the kid can be flipped, sure wish State would attempt to flip him.

Why is it that in all of our recruiting of short QBs, when someone compares the heights to tyson lee, the recruits are always labeled totally different in styles? They all are primarily suppose to throw the ball and run the option. I understand that some are better runners but their main job is to throw and none can see over the line. After all the hell we gave Lee(including myself) why are we now amazed by these short guys?

I've followed enough recruiting to know that a quarterback whose height is his question mark will fudge it on his profile. Anywhere from 1-2".

Favre is listed at 5'10 on Rivals & 5'11" on scout. That translates to 5'9" in real world height.

Brunetti is listed at 6'0" on rivals & scout. That translates to 5'11" at best in real world height. Even one of the recent scout articles from the Army All american game mentioned that he didn't look to be the 6' he was listed at. He probably is 6' in his cleats. It makes no difference, 1" isn't going to make him a better unless he goes into porn.
