MSU recruiting question

In an article on rivals WR Terrell Grant from Cleveland says the following

"They told me that they are filling up fast," Grant said. "They only have a few spots left and there is only one guy out there on the board they are willing to wait on. They have been real cool about it, they just said that they really want me, but when the spots are gone, they are gone. I know that if I don't act soon that offer may go back to a 2010 offer or I might just loose it all together."

"They" is MSU and Grant was first given a greyshirt offer that was changed to a 2009 offer after OM offered. Anyway he says that there is only one (I don't know if he means WR or one player overall) that they are willing to wait on. Do yall have any guess on who is talking about?

The rumor is that Bumphis will decide between Alabama and MSU. Im guessing that we'll hold a scholarship for him until signing day if need be. I still like MSU's chances with Bumphis.

Bumphis, but it could be Thames. I think we have one more WR to get and that being the kid from Mobile, or the kid from GA Marlon Anthony. My money is on Grant going to OM

This is obviously pretty directly correlated with OM so I'm interested. We recruit a lot of the same players like Thames, Bumphis and Grant so why wouldn't I be interested?

We've pretty much given up on Kevin Norwood of D'Iberville. The spot we are holding is for Bumphis. Terrell Grant's offer is also being offered to several other wideouts. The first one to take it, gets it.

Also, if Grant said he might just loose (your spelling, not mine) it all together, then he will fit in nicely on message boards. Message boards are a place where posters have no concept of the difference between lose and loose.

That is a quote copy and pasted from an article on rivals. Regardless, do the state coaches really not care which wide receiver they get? Surely they would think that out of two or three or more guys that one of those guys is better than the others? Is this actually their stance that they don't care who takes it as long as one of them takes it or is this more so used to go ahead and pressure guys into committing? Especially with WR being one of the more if not the most important position of need this year.

but I really believe OM gets Hardy, Grant, Norwood and Thames and State gets Bumphis. Again just my guess for what its worth.

I dont think tehy care because no matter how good of a receiver we get mccorvey is goign to draw up pklays to make them be as useless as the rest of the offense.

Many times several players are fairly close in ability, and therefore you don't necessarily care which one you get. You simply want to be sure that you don't miss out on all of them. If you chased a particular one all the way until late January and then he committed elsewhere, you could be stuck if the others have also committed elsewhere. They are willing to wait on Bumphis because they believe he is head and shoulders better than the others.

...go with the guy who looks to have no problem at this point qualifying. Bumphis.

.........what if we're at 24 qualifiers and both Bumphis and Thames want in?

edit: Who of the 24 already committed would get their offer pulled?

Hardy and Norwood. I think Grant could be up in the air, to tell you the truth I'm not sure how much he adds to this class esp. if we get Bumphis- not being cocky, we've just had a way above average year. Plus we can probably get Assad, and they seem about on the same level. But, I have a bad feeling that dirty St. Nick has his little grubbies all over Bumphis, and he ends up a bammer. I thought I read an interview with Thames where he said it was down to State or Michigan?
I really think:
Hardy- OM
Norwood- OM
Grant- toss up
Thames- State
Bumphis- Bama

Well... the resume of the Alabama quarterback we've got committed doesn't really impress me.

but he is 5'9 and ran a 4.59 at the OM camp. Who knows he may have had an off day but I just don't think he's head and shoulders above all these guys. I believe Norwood is the best WR in the state. He's 6'3 and ran a 4.43 at the OM camp. I like the tall WR. But Bumphis has a lot of offers so he must be good.

but I haven't seen many glowing quotes from Thames about MSU. He came to our camp and has a brother like relationship (his words) with Clayton Moore. I think in the end he winds up at OM and plays safety.

that coaches are trying to see if he is going to work through this season. He also drops a lot of easy catches.

I would very surprised if Thames ended up at OM, he grew up a State fan, his uncle who he is extremly close to is a big MSU fan, and has a home in Starkville. It could happen, but I will be very surprised if OM ended up with Thames.

Where have you seen that Thames has ANY interest in Mississippi?

He showed up at our camp. That right there shows some interest. And other reports I've read and heard indicate there is interest in OM but nothing on the record. He hasn't done an interview since he got back from Michigan. Again I'm not saying he's a private commit or anything but it is my feeling that he ends up at OM.

Showing up at a camp shows interest? Ok, back to reality, Thames is between MSU and LSU, and LSU has not offered yet. Not going into great detail but that is from the family. Now, all that could change over the next several months but thats where it stands right now.

Coming to your camp + Some private interest = You think he's more likely to go to Mississippi than either State or Michigan.

Could you at least try to hide your homerism?

Norwood's parents really want him at Southern and I expect him to go there, he also has a reputation for for causing alot of problems off the field. Yall will probably get Grant and Hardy and I think we get Thames. Bumphis is up in the air.

Regardless of what Clayton or Yancy try to tell you, Thames is not going to Ole Miss. It ain't happening. Get your hopes up if you want to but it will either be MSU or out of state. That's all.

Hey SCUM fan you might want to look at a WR named Chris Smith for the 2nd best WR in MS ,you know the WR that has 4stars on Rivals and rated with the top 250 players in the nation!Pretty sure I read a interview few weeks ago that had Thames saying if he stayed in-state he would be going to MSU.
