Funny thing is, at its core, rocket science is pretty simple. You take a tube, put a lot of highly flammable fuel in it, ignite it, and boom.
The "Rocket Science" part is to make it NOT go BOOM and go SWOOSH instead.

The Space Center in Huntsville is kind of eye opening to this. Some of those early rocket engines were akin to big diesel engines that burned a ton of fuel very quickly.

A lot of them burned kerosene. There's actually a term for a lot of those old rockets, and a lot of the rockets Russia used for years. Big Dumb Booster. It's not a bad concept, really. Gets the job done a lot more cheaply than the more advanced rockets like the space shuttle and the SpaceX rockets.
