— Former Mississippi State receivers coach
Angelo Mirando is under investigation for the recruitment of at least one player, according to ESPN’s
Joe Schad.
Mirando resigned suddenly Sunday for “unforeseen personal issues.”
MSU confirmed, through a statement, that MSU has “worked in cooperation with the NCAA” to examine a “potential recruiting irregularity,” but made no mention of Mirando Thursday.
The examination has been conducted over the last several months, according to MSU.
Attempts by the
Clarion-Ledger to reach the NCAA since Monday were unsuccessful up until Thursday.
MSU spokeswoman
Stacey Osburn in an email to the
Clarion-Ledger, said “The NCAA and Mississippi State are working cooperatively regarding this matter, but have no further comment.
“We are nearing the end of this examination, and it is our intent to provide additional details when it is complete,” according to a statement released by MSU’s media relations department Thursday.
On Tuesday, MSU coach Dan Mullen said it was “possible” Mirando could return to MSU in the future.
Mullen would also not comment on the details of Mirando’s resignation.
“I’m sure down the road, at some point, much later on, we will,” Mullen said Tuesday.
