...or at least that's what this blogger thinks:

So, in order to get what we were looking for in the first place, I combined the two lists. I took a team's total home wins over the past ten years and then added their margin of home wins over road wins [the number of wins minus road victories]. This gets a team who wins a lot but also wins a lot in comparison to winning on the road. Here is the adjusted list:

LSU 33
Florida 29
Alabama 29
Tennessee 28
Mississippi State 28
Arkansas 28
Auburn 27
Georgia 25
Ole Miss 21
South Carolina 16
Kentucky 12
Vanderbilt 6

Interesting considering these only include SEC games.

Adding the margin in makes no sense when determining home field advantage. A team that wins all its games in a year gets 4 points and a team that only wins home games gets 8. That doesn't say anything about advantage, only how often a team wins. Alabama and State both had a score of 4 last season year (2 home + (2 home - 0 road) for us, 4 home + (4 home - 4 road) for Alabama), but we lost half our home games whereas Alabama won all of theirs. If you were to divide this number by the total number of wins, you might have a good metric indicating where you should get your wins. A higher number suggests you will get your wins at home and need to play your weaker opponents at home (which is why 2009 year is awful for us), whereas a low number would suggest you do better on the road or can win just about anywhere.

It says the undefeated team is good enough that their home field advantage is irrelevant.

It says we're a lot better at home than we are on the road. But we wouldn't be recognized for our home field's importance to us for the same reason that J-Rock didn't get enough props in college - the team still sucked.
