Ok...I haven't done a very good job of posting photos lately, but my old camera pretty much gave up on me....so I went out and spent a ridiculous amount of money on new camera equipment recently. So I hope you enjoy 'em........MSU vs. Ark. Game Photos

I'm not sure if I should call it a side job or an expensive hobby.....Sometimes I do some things for the athletic dept. or newspapers....sometimes just for the good seats

I got a 15mm fisheye lens just for shooting wide angle stadium shots and things like that in the Hump so I'll try to do that at any big games where there is a nice crowd.

Definitely like the wide-angle lens. And the non-action shots as well. Nice captures on JV's dunk.

Are you strobing these? A couple have that look. If so, what type and how many?

Same lens all the way?

Is the lighting in the Hump that good? These look pretty clean. Any post noise reduction?

Thanks,

kbanes

No strobes.....

I shot most of the photos with a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM lens and there were a couple shot with a Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM Wide Angle Lens.....the shot from the top of the Hump was with a 15mm f/2.8 fisheye lens.

Compared to the last few years...yes the lighting in the hump is that good now...they added a lot of new lights along each side. No noise reduction done on the pictures. I adjusted the color on a few of them that came out too light (never had that problem before now) but other than cropping them that's pretty much how they were shot.

Wow they actually have HOGS written across their asses. Glad to see we don't have DAWGS written on ours.

I try to get similar shots in my spare time of my kids' youth games. When shooting the action shots from the baseline, do you do manual focus or auto (al servo..)? What about shutter speed and ISO? Do you have a magic setting for these when capturing action shots from the baseline? I have a Canon 40D with a 28-135 mm zoom lens and a 70-300 mm zoom lens. These are not L quality though. Thanks for the tips - your photos are the best I've seen! - Greg

Bill--good work man. I haven't talked to you in a while. Glad to see you're still around Starkville!

The image stabilized L series lenses make a huge difference......I shot most of these pictures at 1600 to 3200 ISO (there is going to be more noise in photos from a 40D than the 7D but it's still not too bad)...outdoors during the daytime you can shoot a lot lower ISOs. I usually shoot on aperture priority set pretty low and adjust the ISO to try to shoot around 1/400th of a second or faster on the shutter speed (you can probably get by at about 1/250th and get crisp pics in youth sports). Everything is autofocus. A professional photographer might tell you that everything I do is wrong.....for the most part I learned on my own and that's what works for me.
