After the SELA weekend, I believe that question was up for debate though. We looked horrible running the bases all last season and kept making the same dubmass mistakes up until the final game. And while essentially every one of those players were Polk's players, the mistakes that were being made were due to bad coaching decisions.<div>
</div><div>Now move forward to this season. We had 2 come-from-behind wins in the 9th inning against Rhode Island and UAB heading into the SELA weekend. So after that sweep, we were actually very lucky not to be 2-5...and this after playing what we all believed to not be very good competition. Again, no one was calling for Cohen's head like some of y'all want to make it out to be, but his resume with the Bulldogs up to that point in time was less than impressive, to say the least. And lastly, it wasn't that we just got swept by Directional Louisiana, it was the way it happened. We looked like the freaking Bad News Bears out there. No way around it, we did. And then a guy steals home in the 8th to win the game and sweep the series?!? Sorry, but bitching about the job Cohen had done up to that point in the season rightfully justified. It's just funny how Cohen and Mullen are immune tocriticismto some folks on here, yet the same posters are the ones who hope we lose every single basketball game we play so they can come on here and beat their chest about how bad Stansbury sucks. That is what is ridiculous.</div><div>

We spent years bitching about Croom and Polk, and justifiably so. And LT for that matter. We claimed to be the enlightened ones, and it's one reason why this site got so popular during the ends of those coaches' tenures. All we wanted was to get someone in here with a resume - who was qualified for the job and who would work their *** off. A coach who didn't make excuses and say we're poor lil MSU. Well, we got our wish, complete from the top of the Athletic Department all the way down. We got EVERYTHING we wanted. Now we're going to ***** about that too?

My point is, after all our fanbase has been through, why not give these coaches at least 3 years of unquestioned support, before we get back in ***** mode? Let's see what our programs can accomplish with good, qualified guys in place.

Basketball is a different topic and not quite in the same position as football and baseball. It's tougher to deal with because there's not as much black and white, because Stans is right there in the middle.

and the 'to date' I was talking about was up until that weekend when some folks were bitching on here. Sorry if I was not clear. Our staff last year was the worst in MSU baseball history. Our freshmen pitching staff this year is the whole reason for optimism. I am extremely pleased with how they've performed so far this year.<div>
</div><div>Last year, Cohen absolutely got a pass because of how bad our pitching was. The mistakes last year I was referring to were the constant base-running mistakes that seemingly never got corrected. This year (starting out), was poor fielding that led to several unearned runs, which cost us 2 of those games. Those mistakes were not due to pitching, but due to ****** fielding by our upper-classmen. The freshmen pitchers were not the ones costing us games.</div>

these Jucos Juniors and try to act like that's the same thing as a 3rd/4th year junior. Jucos usually take time to get acclimated. We are fortunate that Cohen was smart enough to go get Ogden or else we'd be really screwed with Rawdaw's injury. We are playing a ton of position players who are playing real college ball for the first time. They may flop but we can't act like they are experienced players.

fielding a ground ball is fielding a ground ball is fielding a ground ball is fielding a ground ball. Coming from JUCO to play SEC ball may take some time to adjust at the plate, but fielding a ground ball is fielding a ground ball.

and you can't get mad at Cohen for what Sneed, Butler and Collins have done (those 3 are responsible for 10 of our 21 errors and 1 of them plays freaking outfield). As for the jucos, they have settled down and Vickerson may actually be the solution at 3B. As I said about Ogden, we are just lucky Cohen was wise enough to go get him at the end of the signing period or we'd really be screwed.

</div><div>I give Cohen all the credit in the world for the changes he's made to our defense. The Vickerson to 3B move right now looks nothing short of brilliant. Ogden, I wholeheartedly agree as well. The freshmen pitching staff definitely has me optimistic for our future but again, my whole point was up to that point in time (after the sweep), the criticism was rightfully deserved - and nobody called for Cohen's head like some want to make it out to be.</div>

I didn't. I was playing off what you said.

And my whole point is that labeling Vickerson, Shepherd, Ogden, Johnson, Thigpen as juniors as if they are some verteran players is not sound.

Don't act like it's some major adjustment to field a ground ball from JUCO to the SEC though. The only adjustments that should be difficult (in theory) are at the plate due to better pitching.
