"After a grueling week of testing, Mississippi State University took top honors for 2010. Their biodiesel extended-range electric vehicle achieved fuel economy equivalent to 118 miles per gallon, while also achieving the fastest acceleration and autocross times, and the cleanest tailpipe emissions."<div>
</div><div>I know the overall EcoCar win is now Germanic, but I didn't know that State's car won all those categories in addition to the mpg. Pretty cool! </div>

In a lot of categories that may impact the lives of others in areas that have nothing to do with sports.
No glamour, no glory, true.

My decades in Huntsville, I have encountered a LOT of rocket scientists from our alma mater, quietly serving and achieving great things.
Some of which can't be made public.

Which is an outstanding book BTW. He'd flown on a top secret DOD space shuttle flight and afterwards they had an awards ceremony for the Air Force members of the crew in an undergound bunker somewhere near Washington DC.Presented them with their medals and everything. After the ceremony was over and they were leaving, a guard stopped them at the door and said sorry but you'll have to leave the medal here and you can't even tell anyone that you'veeven gotten a medal. But anytime you're in the DCarea, you're welcome to come down here and wear the medal.Years later, the mission was partially declassified and he was able to tell his wife (and the rest of the world) that he'd gotten a medal.

and what he does that is uniquely different than the other schools competing in the ecocar challenge is that he uses senior level marketing management students to come up with a plan to market the project. Not to mention he is absolutely brilliant in using a diesel hybrid car but he also uses all the resources the school gives him to better his program. If I remember correctly something like 1/3 of the points are not performance related but are what you've done to educate and promote green energy to the public. They have been very successful over the past 5 years using this formula.
