So what's up MC people? I have a friend who's son is a very good QB at Lyons Township that just finalized his transfer to MC today. Evidently the offense will be a changing. What's the story?

They are under the impression he will be eligible.
I didn't think you sat out a year if you transfer Public to Private or Private to Public. Thought it was only when you go Public to Public or Private to Private.

Coach Frank jumping into the transfer game?

If he's a senior, I see it as Montini's influence on the CCL.

Sophomore, very talented, thinks he's gonna be starter at MC next 3. Not saying he was told that, I didn't ask but that's what he believes at this moment. I do know he was told he would be running an offense that suits his strengths, I was surprised to say the least but I am in no place to interject my opinion.

He'll have a change in address or maybe a change in custody, it will be taken care of though. Public to private rules are stringent, well anything to private actually, but dozens upon dozens of kids do it yearly.

I can't see anything changing offensively as long as Frank is there...any idea who is taking over freshmen level with Seagroves moving to basketball full time?

If he is a passing QB why he leave LT for MC? MC is superior program but Jon Buetjer does a great job developing the QB's at LT and has a ton of coaching connections at the college level. I highly doubt MC is going to cater their offense to one player after all these years of success running the split back veer.

You can literally look at MC games from the mid 80s and other than the uniforms it would look the same as it does now.

Don't see a major change on offense as long as Coach Frank is there. It never hurts to have someone who is a good passer, even in an option offense. With a lot of schools playing the spread option most QB's can run and if he can learn the reads he can play in the split back veer. Games in the Blue are always tough and if you can add in a wrinkle or 2 it might be the difference between 1-3 or 3-1 in conference.

I know Dean posted in another thread that QB was a big missing piece, hopefully this QB is fits the puzzle. If he can play well, that opens up Thomas to be in the backfield with Kennedy and any other RB's. I would love to see Griffith as a WR/DB this season, not sure it will happen.

Kids like Nagal and Kelly-Marrin have gone Private to Public without any questions and have been eligible right away, I don't see why it wouldn't be the same for kids going Public to Private. I may be wrong but I thought the IHSA was mainly concerns with kids going Public to Public and Private to Private.

LT played a Soph QB last year and the kid did OK. Very quick but got a little spooked by the GW blitzing. This kid may not have seen playing time for a couple of years at QB at LT.

No issues in anyway with the transfer here. More a comment on the potential for this thread to go haywire. Changing address? Check. Custody change? Check. Public to private move? Check. Major Catholic power involved? Check. Just need a certain tiger fan and a bowl of popcorn.

Haha. Got ya, I haven't had much interaction with him but I have read some threads that he's on and it goes awry pretty quickly.

After pouring over my research in my archives, I think the best I can do is Daigler going 9 of 16 against Rita in a 42 - 35 win back in '04.

How you get 42 points out of 9 completions is a mystery.

Complete opposite of this sentence. Only the ones dumb enough not to change their address have to sit out public to private.

Just wondering, why would someone need to change address when going Public to Private if they are in the 30 mile radius? I'm not really that familiar with the transfer rules and we haven't really had too many transfers at MC that I was aware of.

Typically MC loses a ton of kids from frosh to senior year for a variety of reasons ie tuition, kid is not on V as a soph, playing time etc. Only kids I can think of in 25 years who transferred in where Medlock in '02 and Duerig '14.

Aaron Marshall.

Octavius Bond Transferred in as a Frosh from Delasalle.

Though they have had relatively few transfer that made a difference in last 20 years.

I've watched this young man play both live and on film and he's quite good, but he is not prepared to play a starting varsity role because of his size and his ability to throw the out even at 8 yds let alone 12-16. I will not say anything else other than he could have a great future, but to heap the world of MC's offense on his shoulders at this point after a transfer with the expectations of a State title is neither fair nor practical.

Keep working hard young man and your success will come, you still have time on your side and don't press where patience Will prove your success.

Perhaps you (or the friend) is misconstruing the statement a bit. "Running an offense that suits his strengths" could mean changing an offense, yes, but it could also mean that the Caramel offense suits his game too. I only say that because this kid is a very good runner in addition to being a terrific passer, he's a true dual threat QB.

He will have a much bigger O line with Brown and Cooper on the left side and 2 D1 backs so wont have to carry the team or anything.

FYI that Soph QB from last year at LT that you are referring to just got offered by Wisconsin. He's got two more years; so yeah, you are right. Super talented QB but not going to sniff much varsity until he's a senior when Bryant is gone

Big congrats to Bryant. Kid looked like he had talent despite a porous oline. Not sure if their line will be better this year, but should be a fun game at Duchon with my Hitters.

MC will throw the ball, especially if they have a QB and WR that can work into the veer. McNabb, The Welsh Brothers, O'Brien, Lynch, Butkus to name a few were all were all very good duel threat QB's. I thought Thompson was going to have a huge year last season, but the line not holding up and numerous turnovers last season didn't do him many favors. MC has a 6'5 Soph WR coming up to varsity that could be a starter as a Soph. With Kennedy, Thomas and another Soph Davis in the backfield, they will be good on offense...Defense though is the big concern, especially the front 7, secondary is solid.

3 guys in the secondary are back (Kilbane, Griffith & McClure). Linebackers should be very good as well. The only real question in defense should be the defensive line. They will need to step up and control the line of scrimmage.

I think they are putting a junior-Wilkins- at TE. Will be absolutely loaded in '17 with somewhere 12-14 starters back and major impact ones to like Thomas, Verdis Brown, Griffith, the QB, Taylor, Davis will get a lot of yards as soph. This year I have to see the B/W to get a feel where they are at.
