I'm sure most heard it during the game.. but Cal said he wasn't sure he would be ready for the bright lights during the UCLA game.

He is a JUCO player.. so I kind of get it. At the same time, he's 22, not 18.

I hope UCLA is the last time we have this happen, that's for sure.

Interesting comments since Cal said Briscoe played great. Interesting but wrong.

When are some of you going to learn that

Random RR Poster >>>> Coach Cal?

Apparently they all have practice passes too, because they always know who should be getting more minutes.

When the 9th man isn't playing, it's clearly because Cal is an idiot. No way this 100 million dollar coaching staff with 4 Final Fours has a plan.

UMM, I actually kind of agree with you a bit on this one. Mulder played well while in there and just seems to have a nose for the ball and always seems to be in the right place for a rebound, tip in, getting a hand on it, something. I like watching the kid play and would love to see him get some time each game. But, he does have problems on defense and we know how Cal feels about that so not sure just how many minutes he should really see in place of Briscoe, for instance. Hard one to call for increased playing time but sure would like to see him in there at times when we go into an offensive lull, as we do at times.

It's amazin' how that is. I think a lot of it is having a baseball player in the family.

The premise was that Cal was wrong for not playing him on Saturday.

And for the last time. Mulder AND SKJ didn't play in the UCLA game because they were shaking off the Bahamin virus effects. You Cal haters need to back off! Several players (5-6) were a step slow due to that virus; it did cost us the game, NOT Cal's coaching, for chrissakes.

Mulder & Brickso are pretty even players. They both bring their own set of skills that can help this team do great things. Both should play around 20 minutes per game.

Should be out there
Here's an obvious point...same one you could never comprehend with Willis. maybe Cal is making him work for it...maybe he is getting better because he has to in order to play. Maybe he's making him earn it. You ever stop to consider that's how some of them get better....as opposed to just granting them playing time just bc, like you expect. And stop being so one dimensional...every teams strategy isn't "okay, we are going to go out here and just try to score more points..that's how we're going to win, just put some shooters out there." Can you defend, can you put a body on a man, can you put a dribble down to to make the defense shift, can you make good decisions, make a pass when needed? Mulder struggled with all of those things. If it was up to you it would have all be bypassed bc all you see is, oh he hit some 3's. But he needed to do more...and has had to develop to do more to play. That's how you get on the floor...you don't just give it to him. He's playing better because he's had to. He mad bc he didn't play against UCLA...get better, show me you can stop somebody. Him hitting 3's has never meant anything. Maybe you haven't noticed, but Cal is a defensive coach. 2010, 11,12,15...all ranked towards the top in defensive effeciency or other defensive categories. And that's what he's working on developing this team...defense..not I gotta put this guy out there so he can hit a few 3's...what goods that do if your opponent can counter? Unless your just racing to score more until time runs out. If you can stop people from scoring, you know what you have to do to win? whatever you want. You wont have to rely on 3's, free throws, etc...because if you stop them, all and any of your other offense will beat them.

The threes weren't falling, but he certainly did a lot more in his 16 minutes that Briscoe did in his 24.

I agree that he did well but you can't be serious about Briscoe. There is a so much more to Briscoes game than scoring. Briscoe is constantly covering one of their best players and doing great on the defensive side of the ball. Plus, when Fox had to be taken out because of shaky play, who took over PG role? Briscoe. Hell, when Fox was in there Briscoe ran the show quite a bit.

Just because you want to prop up Mulder doesn't mean you have to do it at the expense of Briscoe. There is so much more the he does that Mulder is not asked to do and if he was I'm sure many here would be complaining about him as well.

You might want to tell that to Mulder's father who left his seat in Rupp in a pretty angry way late in the UCLA game. Sounds to me that his father is getting as frustrated with Cal as some others.
If "several" players were a step slow last Sat. then surely Mulder wouldn't have been any worse. We could have used his shooting and rebounding in that game.

Just compare the numbers across the board. It's not just about scoring, Mulder had a much better line across the board today.

But dont ever question Cal on here...you will get stoned
Apparently Cal wants them on the court at the same time. I guess we'll see if he follows through with that against legit competition and see how it goes. I'd have Monk out there as much as possible, but he spent a lot of time on the bench.

Mulder needs to shut his trap and play when he gets in..I'd like to see Mulder play some of Willis's min..Go all Nova out there with small ball..He will rebound better than Willis anyway..Willis is shooting 33% from 3..That makes him useless ..

Mulder proved before tonight that he's earned playing time. He's been our best shooter and a really good rebounder. His defense isn't bad like some try to say either. His defense was good tonight. That's just an excuse that the Cal super friends throw out there to cover Cal's ***. Cal can be just as big of an idiot at times as anybody else. He's no god or genius and it's about time many realize that.

Yes.

Briscoe - 24 minutes, 10 points, 1 board, 2 assists, 2 steals, 3 TO

Milder - 16 minutes, 9 points, 7 boards, 2 assists, 1 block, 0 TO

To be fair, Mulder's role when he's in the game is much simpler. He's just being asked to shoot and be an energy guy and defend. Briscoe is being asked to be the backup point guard, the starting small forward, often assigned to the other teams best player on defense, as well as kind of quarterback the team defense and do a lot of the talking and sort of be the coach on the floor guy.

I like Mulder a lot. But the folks saying he deserves more playing time than Briscoe are totally clueless about basketball or are just trying to stir the pot. Briscoe is one of the best guards in America. UK needs Briscoe on the court, end of discussion. It's not even debatable.

Mulder will get some PT but he is not as good as Briscoe or Fox or Monk and therefore will not play as much. It is as simple as that.

Most are just asking that he shares into Briscoe's minutes...not play more than Briscoe. We desperately need another shooter to compliment this roster once we start playing more half court games against better competition.
