I don't see him leaving after his first year just to go to a basketball school. I'm surprised he was even mentioned in the article.

in a very short period of time. We we're just a couple of plays away from being in a pretty good bowl game in just his first season. Just weighing on the larger fan attendance & the way his young team put a pretty good whipping on that team up north at season's end, he's looking forward to putting the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Top not only in the SEC but in the nation as well. He'll be getting several raises in the next few years.. bank on it..

I really doubt he leave MSU for a job like Kansas (by the same token, if he was already at Kansas I doubt he'd leave there for MSU). When he leaves, it'll be for a lot better job than that one.

But 3 years from now with some success in the books, it could be tough keeping him. He has a good resume so schools will come looking. But that's OK, we knew that when we hired him.

is around to hire the next guy at least. So I'm not overly concerned.

It just feels great to finally have a f'n head coach that can use state as the stepping stone it has always been destined to become.

1. Kansas would be a lateral move. Facilities and potential are about the same. History is about the same- MSU had their "glory" years back in the late 90's and Kansas had them more recently.
2. He'll get more exposure at MSU.
3. He just finished his first year as a Head Coach at any school, I doubt he want's to have a reputation similar to Petrino's already.

That being said, I hope Byrne sweetens his deal somewhat to show him some love....

MSU is poor by SEC standards, but rich by national standards. Kansas is not going to hire a coach away from us. A larger SEC school could. A premier national brand name school (Notre Dame, Texas, etc) could. Kansas is not.

complex), they pay their coach over a million more per year than Mullen gets, and they have a real chance to win the Big12 North each year. I don't think he leaves either (i'm not even sure they would interview him), but lets not pretend it would be a purely lateral move.

at Kansas and it was like watching a game with a bunch of people who were put in the seats from a geriatric home. terrible.

With Byrne here I just don't see us losing a coach for money. I think Byrne will find a way to pay for a coach if it comes to that. I would be interested in what the increased revenue for the athletic department is this year excluding the ESPN money. I bet its enough for a good raise and then some. Heck raise season ticket prices $50 and he gets his raise to be with the top tier SEC Schools.

Mangino made, we too have a new football complex, we have a better history, and we have a bigger stadium. Who is Dan Mullen's agent? He needs to really push this rumor. Nutt has Sexton so I am almost surprised Houston's name didn't come up.

we can pay whatever they are paying, and our practice facilities are good enough for recruiting---and that's all those are really built for.

Oh, and football at Kansas means almost nothing. It means a ton at MSU, and we are in the top conference in the nation.

He doesn't have one, or didn't back during the summer.

Kansas is a step up form MSU, but not the mighty Ole Miss? And let me give you a little hint, 18 year old kids dont give a **** what Ole Miss football did before blacks were allowed on the field. They couldnt careless about history unless that history was in the last 20 years. The longer Mullen stays, the more money he will make. Nutt makes plenty of money right now because he has been around for awhile

all of our facilities are newer than Ole Miss'. Our IPF is newer, our lockerroom facility is newer, and our Academic Center is newer. If anything, recruits will prefer our stadium not just over Kansas but also Ole Miss because of the jumbotron along with the fact that our stadium just looks bigger. If Ole Miss had lived up to expectations this year that would be one thing, but you guys failed miserably in relation to where you thought you would be.

when mullen makes a bcs bowl (or any bowl), you can bet a raise will immediately follow. and you really want to talk about their stadium? i wish i could find the pictures of their end zone "boxes".

that I hang out with. Most are normal guys and actually make me like Ole Miss when they are not playing State. Its the douches like you, who honestly believe your esteemed football program to have never gone to Atlanta is far superior to MSU that drive me to the point of cowbell assault.

Please expound on why you think Ole Miss is superior to MSU football wise. I would love to actually see it backed up.

has new facilities as well. Holliman Center was built in 05, and Templeton Center in 08. They may not be under one roof like KU, but they are very nice and just as new. Davis Wade is already larger then Memorial and will probably be getting a face lift soon if the rumors are true.

As far as salary- 1 million difference is about right between a 1st year head coach and the head coach who personally took KU to as many bowl games as they had been previously. And the 1 million is well within what MSU could pay to keep him.

KU is lateral at best- especially when any football coach would be second fiddle to the basketball coach.

I am pretty sure Kansas has a track around their field also, so no that would not really even be a lateral move, that would be a downgrade. Any time you go to a school with a track around their college football field is a downgrade.

We have had a superior football program, even in the modern era. It's a tallest midget argument, but we've been the tallest midget in football by comparison. I just posted these numbers on Nafoom for the whole conference, but here is the Ole Miss-MSU comparison, since 1992 when the league expanded to 12 teams.

Ole Miss - 114-98 overall (0.538), 59-85 SEC (.410), 9 bowl bids including this year (7-1 bowl record), 4 traditional NYD bowl bids, 0 BCS bowls
MSU - 93-116-2 overall (0.445), 51-92-1 SEC (0.358), 6 bowl bids (3-3 bowl record), 1 traditional NYD bowl bid, 0 BCS bowls, 1 SEC title game appearance

The only thing your football program has had over ours in that period is the one trip to the SEC title game. We've been to more bowls, better bowls, and we've had better records than you. The head to head series is fairly even in that period, but the overall results favor our program.

Also, if you want to eliminate Vaught from the discussion, this year will mark our 13th bowl appearance since 1983 when Brewer took over, and our 14th since Vaught retired. MSU has 13 bowl appearances in the history of the program. Again, it's a tallest midget argument, but our football program has been that tallest midget even in the modern era.

a 17'n tool. You mean to tell me Mullen, a first year head coach, doesn't make near what a coach that just took a perennial bottom feeder to a BCS Bowl game a year ago? And to boot, the KS job isn't a lateral move from MState but is from OM?? That is just too funny seeing as how we just drilled your mighty program into submission just less than a week ago. Mullen will get paid and get pretty much anything he wants if he continues to build on what he started this year. You can bank on it!

his program is superior to MSU's (and I never saw "far"). And, I think Bruiser summed up the reasons quite well. You do have a two inch large jumbo tron or whatever. Forgive me for not being impressed w/ the whole one bowl in nine years thing. But the Liberty is pretty much better than the Cotton so you do have that.
