I like all 5, though. I know that's not internet badass protocol not to go apeshit for 1 guy and say the rest suck...but I like all 5. Del Rio has a lot of potential but I can't imagine he's anything but a 1 or 2 year burn out right now. Liked Hud at UNA. Liked him when he decided he was ready to make waves in FBS. Like him still.
</p>
I like Kirby Smart an awful lot but I've got no clue where his head is right now...on either liking Ole Miss or waiting for a Texas/Florida type job or what kind ofOC he'd get.

a National Championship/Heisman Trophy?<div>
</div><div>The Hud love he is getting over the top. I expected this post but not the very first reply. Keep things inperspective. Del Rio and Gus aside... we have a head coach who has won 2 national championships, coached aHeisman Trophy winner, No. 1 overall pick and had taken us to back to back bowl games for the first time in 11 years and you would rather have Hud? </div>

It's reasonable that people aren't going to be as high on Mullen after this year. Top 15 preseason to barely making a bowl. Going 2-6 in the West, with the 2 wins being against **** teams. Sputtering offense. Weird play calling and personnel decisions. Apparent lack of quality recruiting, especially on the O line and WR.

All of these things have been brought up by members of this board repeatedly. So it's not that surprising that someone says they see more upside from a sitting up and comer head coach than Mullen. They may not be right, but it's not unreasonable.

I'll take it. First time we go bowling back to back in 11 years. I'll take it. Tenn couldn't do it withtheirup and comer. (Not to mention recruiting classes that are supposedly way better than ours). One of those **** teams we beat, beat them. I just think it feels very "grass is always greener".<div>
</div><div>Mullen is a good coach and he will go bowling more than he won't. I'm not ready to trade that in for someone who isrelativityunproven. My response was to the poster above who would seemingly take Hud over Mullen today. I just don't see how you can make that call.</div>

and yet we beat you for a third year in a row and we are going to a bowl game a second year in a row. Great exposure, more money, and momentum going into next year. Baby steps is what we need and we are taking them any way we can get them right now. That is how you build a program.

On a lighter note, thanks again for the help with parking at the UK game!

Who is the HC that has won 2 NCs? Urban Meyer is at Ohio St. I like Mullen. Consider that's coming from a UM alum. He's done some really good things for y'all. He's energized the fanbase most of all. I like Hud's recruiting contacts in the area more than Mullen's and I think he'll work harder recruiting and get better results...for us or y'all. I also think Hud's HC experience is underestimated by many. Mullen's been in some big time programs, though, and seen and participated ina LOT of success. I don't downplay that a bit. He also can energize a fanbase which shows a lot of intelligence. I like that, too. I just like Hud a bit more for us hiring right now. If Mullen called and said he was interested (and of course, he wouldn't), we'd be stupid not to talk to him.

You shouldn't even suggest what is likely a complete burnout for at least a year to UM people. Suggest another tired coach showing signs of burnout who hasn't recruited in years and years? Having said all that I don't hate Del Rio. I suspect he's still a very good football coach...but NOT this year and NOT in our program right now.

Malzahn is solid. I wouldn't hate him, either. Something about his general presence doesn't say high D1 head coach to me. Hey, I could easily be wrong. Again, I really do like Hud's Mississippi contacts, think he's an excellent offensive mind, and think he'd have a real advantage over a guy who has been handed some unreal talent at AU. Still, I like Gus, though. He would be a hire I could get behind. For whatever reason there's been no traction with him in this search that we know of. Could easily be that he's so locked in at UNC that he's not remotely interested in us. Not sure. I still like Hud's body of work a touch more though you simply can't fault Malzahn's college success. It's pretty darn strong.

I think Freeze has the potential to be big time. He knows how to win. He also has a lot less experience recruiting than Hud and I just don't care for the hooks he already has in at UM and the potential for him to feel obligated to take care of UM people who have helped himwith homercoach hires or player signings. I want independence. It's more not trusting those who like him than not trusting him personally. Again, though, he'll bust his butt in every facet of program running/building to win, I think, and we could do worse. He just doesn't have the same college track record of Hud even if a chuck of Hud's is in the FCS.

that order

they are in the jobs they are for a reason...

Mullen has a couple of game decision that are head scratchers, but overall i think he has a great foundation set for the next 4 years ...we have 50 freshmen on our roster!
Malzahn can he lead a program, don't know ...he does have a crazy wife ...he isn't getting the options and air time I thought he would this off-season
Hud/Freeze they both seem to be doing good at where they are, but lets not get crazy
Del Rio he can coach

Everyone that has any thoughts on getting rid of Mullen at this point just needs to stop and shut their fingers up for a while and do some thinking. <div>
</div><div>Now think back to the situation that he inherited. Think of the last game played before his first one. Zero to 45 against Ole Miss. 11 sacks that game. Less than 50 yards of offense. No life in the players or coaches. The program was at rock bottom.</div><div>
</div><div>Now compare that to today.</div><div>
</div><div>Also, I would like for you to look at a coach who has proven himself more than once. Look at where this coach came from, the success he had in his previous school and look at how long it took him to turn a program around that has a lot more resources than we do. His name is Steve Spurrier.</div><div>
</div><div>Spurrier's record at South Carolina has been as follows:</div><div>
</div><div>7-5</div><div>8-5</div><div>6-6</div><div>7-6</div><div>7-6</div><div>9-5</div><div>10-2</div><div>
</div><div>Spurrier was a proven commodity when he walked on South Carolina's campus. He knew what it took to build a champion. </div><div>
</div><div>Compare his record for the first 3 years to Mullen's. Spurrier = 21-16. Mullen = 20-17 with a bowl game to add to that.</div><div>
</div><div>Mullen can coach. Have I agreed with every move he's made? No. I remember Mark Richt making a boneheaded move about his 2nd season that directly cost him a game. He learned from that. Mullen will learn from his mistakes as well. Name me one guy who you are certain can come in and have the desire, drive and motivation that Mullen has? Now think back to our last coach who was too lazy to walk from one area of the practice field to the other. </div><div>
</div><div>We just need to keep doing what we've been doing. If we plug in a couple of JC OL this year, I think next year will be Mullen's best team yet.</div><div>

We're not on a good trend. This was the weakest team Mullen has fielded yet and our recruiting doesn't appear to be getting any better.

You moved to 16/17 following the Memphis win, which was your peak prior to the Auburn and LSU losses, and you'll finish unranked.

In 09 we were 8/10 in the polls and moved to 4/5 through 3 weeks without playing anyone prior to our loss to South Carolina. We finished No. 20/21 in the polls that year.

....is that team barely lost to Case Keenum and Houston at home on a controversial play and 2011 beat La Tech in overtime. That 2009 schedule was the toughest by a mile in the nation. And we beat a solid Ole Miss team and a reasonably solid Kentucky team on the road.

We were a better team back then, Torbush notwithstanding. It's all in the schedule. We were two tds better than the Rebs that year who ended up winning the Cotton Bowl, but their schedule was a joke.
