The man means business. Just ask the chain gang from today. I just wish I could have seen him go off like that on the qbs.

/My boycott officially ended today.

I was talking to a friend who was at the scrimmage this morning. He said wait a minute and I could hear muffled shouts through my friend's cell phone. When he told me that was Coach Mullen going off at the chain gang, I just chuckled and thought "what fire this guy has." Must have really been a site to see and hear if you were there.

I can't wait to see his MSU teams play.

I have to admit the demeanor of the two is similar in some ways, but I've got to believe that Mullen's more professional approach to the job will pay dividends.

***Fire-yep, A+

***Coaching preperation/gameday wisdom-we'll see but I'm guessin easy B+ this season

***Recruiting-Going w/a B- or C+ this year

His predecessor"

*Fire-C- to D+
*Coaching prep/gameday wisdom-Epic Fail-F
*Recruiting-some good some bad, C-

Does this give us any more wins, perhaps 1-2

I think MSU fans are going to be amazed at the improvement of the passing/running games and over physicality of the OL

No we're not going to remind anyone of Tech, Texas, or UF but we're gonna be sayin'..."where THAT been?"

In '09, if we get a minor bowl, most of the Bulldog Nation will be estatic; still, '10 looms as the breakout year-perhaps competing for the SEC W.

Our players NOW know this new sheriff is not 17ing around (I'm sure GB filled his ears w/Croom's lazy-*** screwups) and your gonna play hard every down, in practice and expects the coaches to coach, study, teach the players. Not lounge around and talk about playing golf when there's football to play.

I wonder if Mullen's golf bag has been unpacked-hope not

I'll wait and see how we perform.

All of this hollerin' is just a buch of noise to me. Let's see results on the field.

I'm not impressed by him hollering at the chain gang.

These guys will be prepared for the game, the problem is the other guys do the same thing and the difference will be football talent-that's the recruiting aspect.

And I was impressed that the man pays that much attention to detail. You would never see that out of the golf cart riding Crxxm. I am just waiting on the thread for this on Gene's page. I'm surprised I haven't seen it yet honestly. Also to note I was at the baseball game and he gave Nash Nance and Da'Rick Rogers the tour of left field lounge. The era of Crxxm and company is over.

our Head Coach being active in these practices.

Its a good thing that we have a young dude full of energy. Very different pace than the last two coaches.

I think its time to watch a practice or two since I'm back in the area.

....of our fan base just sickens me every time it comes up. Just when in the hell do our fans think MSU became a church cathedral? I mean, I'm not saying people should go around and make every cuss word a part of their normal vocabulary, but what's so sinful about throwing out an f-bomb, etc. once in a while? By definition(and common sense) we're all imperfect human beings, and I believe your actions are a hell of a lot more important than your words. Actions are how I personally judge people and their moral values, not their vocabulary.

The fact is, coaching is a highly tense and stressful job. Your job is never safe, and you have to get tough. People usually cuss in the heat of the moment, and there are tons of moments like that in sports. Our self-righteous idiot fans need to get over themselves.

Any moron can yell at the chain gang, even Ed Orgeron.

Yelling at the chain gang to do their job right doesn't mean **** about coaching.

Take your **** back to the Spirit. This is a MSU message board and we don't need your two cents on everything. We've got enough of you faggots running around over here and you bring nothing to the table.

This coming from one of the guys who bought into the "wild boyz". After 5 (really 8) years of ******** in Starkville, Ill gladly accept that Mullen and his attention to detail can turn this turd ship around.

Wait, what? After year 1 I was one of the biggest Orgeron critics on the Spirit.

Some of you people need to get your head out of Mullen's ***.

There's no 17ing comparison between Orgeron and Mullen. None. You guys are really grasping at straws here.

Aside from their intensity, which Orgeron was much moreso, there is very little similarity.

a Rebel fan who, apparently, was seriously comparing Mullen to Orgeron. I haven't seen Rebel fans this nervous about our coach since the 1990s.

This is how OM fans were when they hired Orgeron, and most MSU fans were when we hired Croom. When the new guy comes in, everybody's drinking the koolaid until it comes to put-up-or-shut-up time. It's not even worth commenting about because every fanbase (except if you make a terrible hire like Auburn) does it.
I am personally reserving my judgement until I see the results. It is hard to not be sheepish though. I will also admit though, he reminded me very early on of EddyO just a little.

MSU fans laughed at Ole Miss when we hired Orgeron. Ole Miss fans, for the most part couldn't see it.

OM fans laughed at MSU for hiring Croom. Some of you saw it, most others didn't. Terrible hire, as was Orgeron.

Very, very few rational MSU fans made fun the Nutt hire.

I don't think Mullen was a bad hire. And I'm certainly not afraid of it.

I laughed my *** off when you hired Nutt... I know you love him, and think he's the next best thing to Nick Saban in the SEC West. You will have reality to face in two years, when the cupboard is bare... In the meantime, enjoy your fleeting success with your "One Heartbeat" ghey *** video...

My point was that those of you who are taking every little difference between Mullen and Croom and turning it into "this man knows what he's doing" are 17'ing morons.

Croom was a failure of massive proportions, and in no way ever deserved that job.

Just because Mullen is younger, therefore being much more energetic and harder working, doesn't mean he knows what the hell he's doing.

My point was, much like the Orgeron situation, just because its a change doesn't mean the program will change. He could be a ****** *** HC. He has just as much chance to be a very good one. Wait until he coaches a game or two.

Mullen has actually made the normal progression to become a head coach. He has been a very successful coordinator at a National Championship team. O was a DL coach and recruiter. He was hired as a recruiter first and coach second. His coaching got him fired, his recruiting got Nutt a cotton bowl win. Croom wasn't even remotely qualified to be a college head coach. He had only been a coordinator for 2 years several years ago. He was on the down swing of his career.

Mullen could be a bust but his chance at success is far greater than Croom or O. So far he has been a homerun hire but he hasn't played the first game yet. He brings great excitement to the team, practices, and to the fan base. He did all that without ripping his shirt off.

but, if you choose to believe what Florida fans say about Mullen, your point (that he was OC only in title, Meyer was the OC) is incorrect.

I will concede this discussion since it is neither sensible that y'all would budge from your position, nor sensible that I should budge from mine.

There is no reason why y'all shouldn't be happy about Mullen's actions, because it is stark opposite from Croom's typical antics.

My only contention left in the thread is the dumbasses like JacksonDevilDog that are too stupid to rebut a point in a discussion, and instead make stupid comments like "Take you're Rebel *** back to the Spirit!!!111!22!!@1@!!??!!?"

I think you've got a good coach who will put up a lot of wins at Mississippi State. I could see him being your Stansbury of football.

but if it came down to O and Croom, I would have much much much rather have had O. As much of a ******, no good, piece if **** Coach he was, at least he brought in good recruits. Recruits that could come in and with some good coaching pull out some big wins. He might have been a piece of ****, but he was not a LAZY piece of ****. I would do anything to slap LT in the face. I don't even blame Croom...... he was in over his head. I just can't believe we fell for his ******** that year we won the Liberty Bowl. Even I was convinced he was "the one" and that might have been the biggest mistake (after admitting I didn't go to the Auburn basketball game and bitching about the crowd) I've ever made.

Since Ole Miss whipped State's *** in recruiting this year, I can only assume that State's already bare cupboard will be even more bare in two years than OM's. What's your plan to right that ship?

back when he got the Bowling Greene job, you'll find that there were 3 guys who spent a lot of time brainstorming together to develop it. And one of those 3 guys was Dan Mullen. The other 2 were Meyer (obviously) and the Utah coach.

the avg OM fan that posts on here has zero sports knowledge and does not know of mullen's past. however, if you were to ask them about the latest new grill, cool beer, restaurant, or hit dance move they'll be able to help out.

Well, if we have the success that Utah has had with their position coach who had the OC title for Urban. I will be very happy. I dont think Dan Mullen would have been around Urban Meyer that long and be incompetent. He is a young head coach, it isn't like he is a 50 year old RB coach who finally got his chance. He really hasn't been passed over for any jobs that I know of. He has taken the normal route of head coaches that have been successful. Saban, Tuberville, Spurrier, Miles. All those guys were successful coordinators and then became head coaches. I am not putting Coach Mullen in that group, just stating that is the normal progression for a successful head coach. Croom or O didn't go through that progression and they were also failures.
