And hope da Man does better after leaving UF than him, the ole coach.
Growing wool in midsummer makes me itch, I hope it doesn't molt until spring.

this article seemingly was written to play down what Saban said that Mullen responded to. Scarbinsky claims this in the article:

"Never mind that Saban didn't actually diss the spread. He simply and accurately said that it's tougher for NFL types to evaluate how players who run the spread in college will perform in the pros."

I thought what Saban actually said was that the spread didn't prepare players to play in the pros as well as other offenses or something along those lines. That's very different than saying it makes it harder for the NFL folks to evaluate a college player for the next level. It may indeed make it tougher on NFL scouts to evaluate properly (and to be honest who cares) but the point is I don't believe that's what Mullen zinged Saban for saying.

What is stated in this article would not hardly be worth responding to but if you go back to what Saban really said it appears he said it to keep this in recruits minds when making their college choice which, of course, very much deserved a response from Mullen.

I just think coaches better have the players to back it up when they mouth off to the big boys. You don't hear Spurrier throwing around cute little quips about the heavy hitters in the SEC any more. When you're kicking everyone's ***, it's easy to be pompous. A better response by a second year coach with a losing record would probably be along the lines of "well Coach Saban is certainly entitled to his opinion, but when I look at my track record -- helping in some way to get these guys to be first round draft picks out of this offense -- I think it speaks for itself." At this point, if there is a chance to shove the boot all the way up your *** in Tuscaloosa this year (and I'm not saying there will be), it will happen.
