My modest observation would be more inclined to believe that Mullen has the final say so in play calling. I've read today several post claiming Collins is to blame.....Koenning is to blame etc etc.

I believe that Mullen called the prevent defense. I believe that Mullen orchestrated the very conservative play calling on our final possession. I believe 100% that this loss is on Dan Mullen's shoulders. If Mullen really thought the prevent was the wrong package on the final drive, he could've trumped that call.

What is painfully obvious to me is that Mullen has lost the fire in his belly. All the "relentless effort" he preaches is pure hype now. He wants to demand that from his players, yet doesn't lead by example in this regard. He no longer coaches with a chip on his shoulder and aggressive. He coaches tentative and scared.

We deserve more from a coach making this kind of money. The bigger problem I believe is that Scott will never call him on this. Why should he??? After all he, has twitter to rectify it all.

Dan may be sending a message. Namely, State doesn't pay assistant football staff on a par with the rest of the conference. He is possibly informing the administration of that fact. Check the salaries in the SEC as a whole and then check the salaries in the SEC West...thanks for input.

So what if he is sending a message? I happen to agree with him in this aspect. It does not however change the fact that the buck stops with him. He simply has not gotten the job done as of late. We are 2-7. Look at the 2 we beat. I'm simply saying Dan has lost his swagger. I'm use to seeing him crawling up and down a ref with enthusiasm and passion. Now all I see is him chewing on his play chart. I'm sorry, I just don't see the same coach we hired.

You just verified my point. Our staff is ahead only of OM, Kentucky and Arkansas. All three have new head coaches and staff. If successful, those salaries will shortly increase both for the HC and assistants. Thanks for the input.

The point is we paid our entire assistant staff approx. only $550,000 less Than Florida, $300,000 less than A&M and $175,000 less than Tenn.. We`re not talking about huge disparities here as you are trying to imply and certainly not enough to merit the horrible product we are currently putting on the field. ALSO IF SUCCESSFUL Mullen and his staff`s salaries would increase also. The message is clear Mullen can`t get this job done and you and the rest of his apologist/excuse makers need to deal with it.

Article on CL online talking about Dan not beating a team that finished the season with a winning record since the Gator bowl in 2010. That would mean no win against a regular season .500+ team since 2009. Ouch.

Which assistants are getting all that money? Collins is the lowest paid DC in the league by about $200,000 and Koenning is tied with one of UM's co-OCs for the lowest salary in the league. Either that article is wrong or we're paying our position coaches about as much as the top schools in the league.

All we have to do is look at the Alabama game last year. That entire "we believe" propaganda. Mullen has been totally different since then. I don't know if thought that would be....1) his catapulting moment and it didnt happen or 2) he is indeed can't win against a team that is not on the decline. The Egg Bowl was a pathetic effort of Crxxm proportions. The bowl game was a pathetic effort of Crxxm proportions. OK State, Auburn etc etc. Great, we beat Alcorn.

We can't wait until we hit rock bottom to adjust with stadium expansions and rennovations to pay for. I'm not saying fire him today. However, by the end of the season if we are not back on the uptick (which I HIGHLY doubt), we need to make adjustments soon.

No clue, but regardless we had a defense stacked with NFL talent. That makes up for assistant coaches sometimes. That offense was still turrible. We beat Florida by not throwing the ball.

Thanks for saving me a lengthy post. You summarized my exact feelings in just a couple paragraphs. I'm completely serious when I say that I think Mullen had a life changing epiphany during the Bama game. Before then, he had spent three years building a program that had been to two straight bowl games and started the '12 season with a 7-0 record. He was on cloud nine and really believed that his philosophy and recruiting strategy could get it done at MSU. Well, that Bama game changed everything. It was just one loss, but it showed him and the world that the gap between MSU and the elites is still as wide as ever. Sure, we can knock off a few "down" programs every now and then and scatch and claw for 6-7 wins, but an SEW west crown is nowhere near our grasp. In fact, it's probably farther than it's just about ever been thanks to the recent dominance of Bama, LSU, and now A&M.

Well, the question now is what do you do? I'm not on the Fire Mullen bandwagon yet, and I'll at least let the rest of the season play out, but I 100% agree that you that the biggest risk that Strick has right now is letting this thing go until apathy sets in with the fanbase. That would be a disaster of epic proportions when you think how far we've come in the last 5 years. In my opinion, he has to let the staff finish the season, allow Mullen to make changes during the offseason, and then clearly set the expectations for next year. Anything less than 7-8 wins and a bowl game would be unacceptable, and I would not extend the contract if that was all that was achieved.

I am and have been on the fire bandwagon after the A&M game last year.
Dan is over-rated and doesn't have a clue on how to coach an offense.
All he knows is what he learned from Urban Meyer. It's clear that Mullen doesn't know how to run any other type of offense.
Dan was just the yes man for Meyer, just like Les is his yes man at MSU.. It was all one big ruse..
