Mayers just committed and Moncrief committed yesterday. We are going to get 2-3 or more commits in the next few days. They are just releasing them slowly so that each guy gets "his day".

I get the feeling that the recent **** talking by MSU struck a nerve with Nutt.

Outside of Mayers, weren't most of their upcoming commits already known to be giant OM leans? I mean if Brassel and TJ Worthy commit Tuesday and Wednesday does it somehow mean Dan sucks even more at recruiting than he does today?

It's July.

the two Cotton bowl winsmay have struck a nerve with the recruits.

You're an idiot if you think Nutt is just now "unleashing" his potential or something. I give credit where it's due, but you're the worst homer around and make it real tough for me.

I'm struggling to see how not overcoming a decade of suck and having a Top 25 class put together in July before season 2 of his tenure could be considered a weakness. I don't care who the coach is or how much optimism there could be in the program right now. It's going to be hard to sell commits on a program before winning a game or two.

Think about the hole he's digging us out of before you call it a weakness.

signing day is in February. A bunch of **** is going to happen between now and then. Commits now are fun to talk about but they mean jack. Both Ole Miss and State will lose commits between now and February. I guarantee it.

Mayers was a bit of a surprise, but I will say aGAIN that they should be doing a little better than us in recruiting right now don't ya think? They are coming off back to back Cotton Bowls.

We are still holding down a VERY good class so far.

We already have 3 dandy dozens in CJ Johnson, J. Whitehead and Z. Jackson. Redmond and Fosselman are good players by all accounts. Scott is a good player. Rufus Warren is the only one that doesnt jump out at you on paper.

We look good with Dee Arrington, James Maiden, Joe Morrow, Daniel Knox.

They will more than likely get Brassell, Singleton, Pinkston, Golson.

Luckily there are a lot of good players to go around in MS this year. We have reached a critical point where we need to start winning or it will continue to be difficult for us. Ole Miss is going to have another good season this year thanks to their schedule.

The ONE recruit that would make me lose it if he went to Ole Miss is Dee Arrington. After watching a lot of clips from the top guys in the State, he is my favorite player in Mississippi.

Im pretty sure that we cornered the market on claiming that MSU boosters were buying recruits in the event we lost a recruit to MSU.

By the way, I will bet that this year's instate recruiting class will flip back and forth more than any class in recent memory.

Mayers likes OM this week, next week he could be confused and commit to MSU.

Until the bowl season is over, all of this is just to help pass the time until two a days.

...and no those other kids don't hurt as bad. However, we could be looking at 3 Dandy Dozen's to their 8. It is very possible. Whitehead is wavering big time. Are we really 50/50 on Singleton? Morris?

Have to give Nutt credit. He has recruited better than Orgeron since he has been here. And they have appeared to change their focus back to Mississippi.

All it takes is a 3-2 game, and even then, after all the riots, the SOB could end up doing nothing in his college career.

You're exactly right, it is a good way to pass the time, which is taking a damn eternity.

You need to check yourself.

Where exactly do you pick up that I am worrying about anything? I said that DTD was overreacting.

Now I really like Dee Arrington as a player, so I would be pissed if he went elsewhere...but who cares.

I agree that the original posters' comments were ridiculous. There is no need to get up in arms about Nutt picking up a few players or Dan missing out on some at this point. That is pretty much what I said. Outside of that, why not keep up with recruiting?

majority of the top players "seem" at this point to be ole miss leans, there is trouble in river city. mayers was a bit of a surprise. as the drip drip drip continues, most will likely be no great shock, but that in and of itself ought to worry the bulldog faithful... it would concern me if most of the top kids committing to msu wasn't any surprise. just sayin.

but as noted, it is a long way to feb.

they'll stop at nothing to make sure we don't pass them by in football.

....sleeping with NCAA investigators. Arkansas is their only rival when it comes to obsession on the football front. In general, they aren't that obsessed, as long as we don't beat them.

Our class was nowhere near set by December. I will agree that if you haven't gotten a lot of interest by December from a kid, its probably over. But our class was only half set by the end of December.

it is still a ridiculous post.

Here is how I read your post:

Ole Miss really wants to be better than us in football. Thank you Captain Obvious.

...because we pulled in a Croomesque recruiting class. Outside of Robinson, Wells, and Hughes, look at the rest of that list. Paul Crawford was our replacement for Carlos Thompson. Christian Holmes. Favre. Dillon Day.

These are not top guys.

..you people sound like a bunch of hysterical old women.

Only on sixpackspeak.com could July be the defining month for a recruiting class.

Moreover, how many of these world-beater studs are going to academically qualify?

HOWEVER. Mullen did take a bunch of jake legs and almost go to a bowl game last year. So who knows, maybe he's one of those Ferentz type developers.

I happen to think Schmuley's theory of Mullen being a short-timer (and known for it) is true, unfortunately.

The problem is the perception of the caliber of your team, which is highly inflated due to your successful scheduling. That has been the problem for the past two years. Your schedule has allowed your team to reach a level of success it likely would not have if you had played the same schedule as MSU, which has led to the current "trouble" of convincing top recruits where they may or may not have the most success.

Holmes I think you're right about, and Jeremy Lee. They may not be big stars, but I think guys like Dillon Day, Eric Lawson, and Paul Crawford have good projectable bodies that could do good things once Balis gets a hold of them. Dillon is really athletic, and about 30 to 40 more pounds and he will be the size of a good OG in the SEC. Lawson is a big body, and Hevesy has done some good things with the line. I think the jury is still out on Favre. The kid is 18, and could still grow a little. Heard he's throwing the deep ball well in practice. Whatever the case, I agree these guys were backup plans. But with the staff we have, and with Balis really doing some good work, I think some of these guys could do some good things down the road, especially on the OL. </p>

This has gotten to be annoying.

If you are so cool that you don't follow recruiting, don't participate in a recruiting thread in July.

And for the record...around 27 players from MShigh schools and jucos committed to MSU or OM last year. OnlyGiles flipped from the original commitment.

So yeah...the they will flip back and forth comment has merit, but very little.

So what was it before your schedule got tough just a couple of years ago? Does the spin change to Croom if you go back farther? If you go even further back than Croom, was it Jackie's sick family, 911, and PI's?

I mean, at what point do you acknowledge that this isn't a strong argument?

2010 - 38th
2009 - 19th
2008 - 33rd
2007 - 27th
2006 - 39th
2005 - 39th
2004 - 60th

This according to Scout.com. Go ahead and tell me the rankings don't mean anything, and I'd agree to some extent. Stars are ridiculous. That said, Croom was horrible in the beginning and got better as time went on in terms of recruiting. Mullen's first full class was basically like Croom's first two. Here's to hoping the talent level in MS is good enough that we can get our share.

....that said, Day was going to La Tech, Lawson to Texas Tech (maybe), and Crawford to....Baylor? Favre was Southern bound at best.

Point being, this is the meat of the recruiting season. You have to get your big name guys nailed down and try to hang on to em. You don't start working in November like the old days.
