Mullen meeting with Byrne (What would you say?)

VZ posted that Mullen and Byrne had their annual meeting to recap the season. Put yourself in Mullen's shoes and you get the ear of the AD for several minutes. Minus the salary talks (that is a given), what would you ask Byrne for/to do. Personally, here are a few things I would as for...

1. Announce tomorrow that we are expanding Davis Wade Stadium. (Even if it takes a year to get blueprints done and 2+ years to start moving dirt, at least strike with the announcement now. Recruits don't care about the templeton troughs because they don't use 'em. They want fannies in seats, and lots of seats means more fannies)

2. Install goal line cameras from four seperate angles. (Would have helped Vs. UF)

3. Revamp the coaches show. (i.e..build a set that looks more comfortable.)

4. Get out there to ESPN and FSN and promote our program more. (an AD would have more clout talking to ESPN and making sure they distinguish between us and Ole Miss...also, let's see our guys (coaches) on some of the sports show like PTI)

5. Get a new equipment shed for the practice fields. That rickety old thing needs to go. Also, buy some new practice equipment for the players (ie...tackling dummies, rings, etc...)

Any other ideas I have forgotten or you would add to enhance the program? Let's hear them...

1. Yes, the recruits care about the total number of fans showing up to the game. Adding in 7,000 seats with 2,000 of them being club level means nothing to the recruits when they would rather see us add in 12,000 regardless of club level. Let's aim high. If we want Byrne to stick around, then we're going to have to. I'd hate to see him ask for a larger expansion when he has to settle with a smaller one. That will be the beginning of the end of his time here.

2. We could put all the HD cameras and 65" 1080p monitors we wanted in the replay booth and it wouldn't matter. The SEC will use their SD equipment. After all, if grandma says she can't tell the difference with her new HD, why should the refs care?

3. The coach's show somehow has gotten worse over the years. Who knows why. Byrne should go to whatever student group runs the thing and give them an ultimatum. If they can't clean it up, hire a halfway decent media crew.

4. Promotion of our program will not happen until we give them something to promote. Maybe we should start marketing ourselves more as "State." At least there's less chance of a spelling screw up.

5. That will probably be the cheapest thing. I wonder how effective the IPF is as far as actually helping the team practice when most practices are held outside. Seems like a ton of money goes into it and it's mainly used for recruiting.

I would ask Byrne to help push the effort for constructing the parking deck that has reached vaporware levels. Damn thing has been talked about for over 10 years with nothing happening. More parking equals more people.

I would ask Byrne to ramp up a serious student bulldog club. Points for purchasing tickets. Points for attending any MSU sporting even. Extra points for making it to away games. Cap it at some reasonable level, but enough to get students more involved during school and hook them after they graduate.

Something like costs 50-100 bucks to get in.

Every 4-5 events you go to gives you 1 Bulldog Club point. And students are eligible for prizes for attending more events, like a dinner with Cohen, Stans, Mullen and Byrne.

They are going to try it out at a couple of Women's Bball games and make sure the scanners, cards, and everything work correctly before opening it for bball and baseball games. Should be pretty exciting.

Shows how ignorant of these things I've become since I graduated. Volleyball and Soccer games are soon going to be packed.

And make sure they are effective all over the stadium. They are unbearably loud in some areas and can't be heard at all in others.

Overall I dont have any complaints about how we are moving forward and improving the atmosphere. Byrne probably has a nice long checklist of things he is chipping away at already in preparation for next football season.

...to a 62K stadium that consistently sells out and is a hard to come by ticket?

Thank goodness you people aren't in our AD.

By my math, if we added 12,000 end zone seats, that would put us at a net gain of 10,000 (bleachers hold couple grand) seats. With a normal seating of 55,800 (or in the ballpark of with no added sideline chairs etc...) that means total seating would be about 65,800 not 70,000. My recommendation is to put chairbacks in on both sides from the 30 to the 30 (or 25 to 25) in the lower level. That will reduce the seating a little bit numbers wise but could be done easily and would still leave a number of about 63,000. Sounds great to me... For 2 OOC games, I would like to see parts of the upper deck, like the corners, be sold for cheap ($5)....try to get underpriviliged kids a chance to see a game.

I went ahead and joined the bulldog club the other day since I'm already here to go to a lot of the games like girls soccer and such.

Pdigital now that I have pissed everyone off you are exactly right, I have sent several emails to ADAD about audio in stadium, I have my own production company in Dallas, this ***** of it all is I am providing audio for +$%* pep rally at AAC, but at least I am getting paid. Anyway, the audio is not consistent throughout stadium, as I hear it the mid and mid highs are not present in stadium so it is very muffled. It makes it very uncomfortable to listen to talking heads but not as bad for music.

I would at least give him what Croom was making last year. It isnt rewarding a 5 win season as much as it is being proactive and letting him know if/when he does succeed the money will be there. In my opinion the guy has proven he knows what he is doing

we get Croom's *** off of the payroll. And I assume we won't be paying woody anymore after the end of the year.

But I want to say yes. In fact, I believe you could get both your dog tag and your bulldog coalition card scanned for every event you go to.

I may have the number of events wrong to earn a Bulldog Club point. But essentially it is a way to get students involved in more sports than football and basketball. Then have them feel like they have a solid base after they graduate to encourage future donations.

Rowdies point system was about making sure the wig man and co. got the best seats no matter what time they got to the hump.

Bulldog coalition is a way to promote student participation for minor sports, and give students enough of a base in bulldog club when they graduate that they will donate and buy season tickets. It has nothing to do with giving certain students priority seating

12,000 end zone seats @ $50 donation = $600,000

2000 renovated chairbacks ($600 per) to club level ($1250 per) = $1,300,000

For years, it's been "I'm not gonna pay face value for a ticket, someone will give me one when I get there!"

This is the first season where we've gotten away from that. Immediately increasing capacity after one season isn't the way to go.

Keep demand high for two or three years, make it a hard ticket to come by, and you'll have greater success selling tickets when you do expand.
