to have a head coach who has been successful coaching QBs, has an idea of how to recruit them, and has a system that is attractive to these QBs.

I'd say pretty strange.

is getting letters and calls every day. I know State has contacted him and he also got a call from UCLA this week.

/Weems at Meridian wants him to transfer to play QB there next year
//Also thinks Witt will be playing ball at a major university after highschool
I'm an old Lamar brat. That would be amazing if a little old private school like Lamar could produce an SEC qb. Hope he does better than the last Lamar football player that went to State. I don't think he played a down.

That's what I was thinking. Mullen isn't doing it the right way. He needs to wait 4 years before signing another one, possibly 5 years with the service of a walk-on.

No disrespect intended, BigMother, but I'd have to hear that from Larry's mouth. Rumor was floating around last year that he wanted Andrew Watkins, too, but we see how that panned out.

From what I was told, Weems reminded Witts dad that the part of Lauderdale county they live in was just anexed by Meridian and he wanted to know if he was interested in transfering. Witts dad basically said that Barnes has assured him that Witt will be playing at a 4 year school after next year, so they were happy at Lamar.

I took that as "hey kid... come play QB for me."

/I also just noticed that Witt has made BDJ.com's top 40

If he could gain a few lbs I think he would be a very good qb in the SEC. He has an absolute cannon for an arm.

Weems started out in 1978 as the Secondary coach when Mac first got the HC job. Then Larry became Mac's defensive coordinator for much of the 1980's.
