I was listening to one of the 620 AM radio shows this afternoon. They were talking about Meyer grading his staff on different aspects of their jobs and went on to say that Mullen graded at or near the worst recruiter on the Florida staff. Somebody please correct me if I heard incorrectly, but does anyone know anything about which players he actually recruited. I hope he brings in some good assistants who recruit their asses off.

you've GOT to be a good recruiter to succeed at MSU. Let's face it, due to our lack of winning history, the program doesn't just recruit for itself.

can't find where I read it, but back during the initial phases of the search, I had read somewhere that he was regarded as a solid recruiter... that was one of the check marks I had in his favor

just my 2cents

This is a quote Paul got from him today.

"Since they got a new head coach in there and one that ran a lot of spread offense, I will give them a pretty good look now. His offense puts up a lot of numbers. It makes me think that I could be a good fit in that type of offense that he will run at State now."

Byrne, along with his many ninja attributes, has the ability to fill the subconscience of prized recruits through esp. Many will follow.

That's pretty much exactly what the show host said, that Mullen graded about the worst on staff as far as recruiting effectiveness. Something like that. The host said that Mullen does not care too much for recruiting...doesn't put that much effort in it.

Take it for what it's worth. You know he'll put in effort here b/c he is the man and has to. Effectiveness? Yet to be seen. Hell, he can prove ALOT in just a few short weeks here.

was getting on the recruiting trail immediately and how much he loved the talent in the state and how he wanted to keep it all. He has already called Bumphis and Russell.

He knows how very important recruiting is.

......I've heard somebody say Mullen is a bad recruiter, and another person(local TV) say he's a very strong recruiter. This coming on the hells of "Petersen is a done deal" and "all signs point to Kevin Wilson."

Seriously, why do we even give a **** about all this? Mullen is the coach, and like every other coach he's going to have to prove himself........regardless of what all the "experts" think about him. We may all get warm and fuzzies if every national media personality says he's the greatest thing since sliced bread, and then he might proceed to completely <17> up an already <17>ed up situation at MSU. On the other hand, all the personalities may say he's not a right fit, a terrible recruiter, etc., and then he proves them all wrong by putting MSU football on the map.

All I know for a fact right now is this. Dan Mullen is our head football coach, and I'm going to give him an opportunity to turn our program into a winning one, just as Sylvester Croom had his opporunity.

I know that the day Kiffin was hired, he went across state to try to recruit Marlon Brown, top recruit in the state of TN.
