"I don't like commenting on other jobs, I've had several schools reach out to me this year," Mullen told The Clarion-Ledger. "I'm very happy at Mississippi State and I think we're working on an extension for me to stay there."
Great statement for him to put out there, that should quiet any other rumors and head off any recruiting disadvantage it might have been if this had been left dangling. I guess rumors of him angling for an NFL job are false as well. Shocking.

It's also so smart because he put it in the press that he wants an extension. If the administration doesn't give him one, then they will look bad and create a lot of speculation going into the offseason.

This is a much better statement than in the past...

He acknowledges he was contacted and wants an extension. Lays it out there.

Mullen should absolutely be offered a contract extension. He has built a group of students that can win. If we close out a solid recruiting class and have some minor tweaks on assistants, we will be in a great place going into 2017.

It's mutually beneficial for both parties

if we offer an extension with a very low buyout clause. If Mullen wants out, done. If State wants out, done.

Yea no ****.

I would rather win the Egg Bowl and go 5-7 than lose it and go 7-5. It means that much...

Consider that he is currently the 2nd longest 'tenured' HC in SEC Football (behind Saban).

He will set several MSU records in Dec when we go out 7th consecutive bowl. Jackie went to 6 over his 13 years. (Granted, few SEC teams have gone to bowls with 5-7 records)

I think his response is different this year... I am glad he made the comments though..

“It’s the same deal. The only year you haven’t asked is my first year as the head coach. Same thing,” Mullen said last year. “Just because it’s on the Internet doesn’t mean it’s true.”

I would rather have a 6 or 7 win season and lose to UMiss, because I actually think winning seasons are more important than bowl games. But if you told me that we could go 5-7 with an Egg Bowl win, and still get a bowl bid, AND that our Egg Bowl win would prevent UMiss from going to a bowl....I might take that over going 6-6.

I personally think he should listen to any and all LEGITIMATE job offers (legitimate meaning one he would actually consider). All of you listen to all offers, don't you? If not you're a fool. That said, if he's not considering a legitimate or crappy team offer he owes it to his team, administration and ultimately fans to let them know that and like today if he was talking to them and for whatever reason it didn't work out he owes that info too. You can say it's nobody's business but he's the coach of a state owned university being paid at least partly by state funds and has a contract, he owes the info in my opinion. I know how agents use leverage and try to play one against the other but ultimately he owes everyone the truth.

Interesting viewpoint. I think Freeze also owes it to the state of MS to tell everyone what they did.

Sounds like Mullen was interested, but Oregon didn't want to pay a 5-7 coach $4.5+ Million per year...

No it doesn't. It sounds like Oregon wanted to hire Mullen, but he turned them down so they hired someone else. End of story.

amazing that people can read the same thing I have, and come up with a completely wrong interpretation.

I guess they must have some agenda, or they're a troll. It wouldn't be the first time, though.

Tougher recruiting area, less money, higher expectations, a resurgent Washington in your backdoor, etc.

I guess it's better because everyone says so? I'm not sure.

Everyone else has caught up for sure. They have gaudy facilities and jerseys, but so does everyone else. They also took full advantage of a down USCw.
