Is this finally when Don ends up at PSU? Barring a miracle run, I can’t see PSU keeping Franklin after this year. Will Don be the leading candidate?

I think if KY and LSU don't fix things, Stoops and Kelly will be gone. LSU will not tolerate making it to the play off another years. LSu don't have the team to make it. Considering who has already been fired there could be a lot of P4 jobs open.

Dan would take that job in a heartbeat, but not sure how into him they are.

Cignetti to Penn State would make a ton of sense.

Franklin is making a huge salary. I don’t know what his buyout is, but I believe it would be incredibly substantial.

And he has survived for years when it’s been obvious what his ceiling is. I think Penn St is happy enough being good but not elite. I think he’s safe.

Not a bad resume, why would they fire him?

I think his buyout is 8 million per year without cause. But if he leaves for another job he has to pay 2 million per year back to PSU, reduced to 1 million in later years.

I think Franklin is gone unless he makes a deep playoff run.
Who they target I don’t know but Mullen would be on my shortlist of ones to call,

I haven’t done any research to verify this, but I was listening to a Penn State pod yesterday where they were talking about the 10-year contract Franklin signed in 2021. They said his buyout is approx. $48 million this year, and that the only way he’d be gone after this season is if he left on his own for another job.

ETA: I got curious, and this says $56 million... How much is James Franklin's buyout? Penn State fans are done amid UCLA disaster

His record in big games is awful. .341 against top 25 and .167 against top 10. That might sound good for a Tulane, but Penn State was highly ranked entering into many of those games.
