Just looking forward to the 'Dogs finally playing someone other than an SMC team or Alleghany/Union Academy in the playoffs.

What's the story with Bishop? What kind of offense do they run? Top players?

You're most likely right Sway but part of the fun of the playoffs is seeing new teams, win or lose.

I just wish they would have put Murphy or Rosman on the other side of the bracket, because it's going to be the SMC invitational again now.

Murphy squandered a couple of promising drives last night, as they also did against Swain. The offense needs to put points on the board when the opportunity is there to do so. Had Rosman been able to get anything going, it could easily have gone the other way. Defense has played well against the run the past couple of weeks. Good to see Blaylock and McTaggert in the backfield early in the game. They will definitely give new options to the offensive play calling.

Bishop has a good QB, a couple of talented receivers, a pair of good linebackers and not much else.

They won't be intimidated after the murderers row they've played against the last few weeks, but they won't give Murphy any real trouble.

Pretty much it. I have no idea what Murphy has, but if they're like Murphy typically is, they'll beat Bishop without too much trouble. Any team with some size up front can manhandle them.

I finally seen murphy for the first time this year this past Friday night. I'm not sure if it was the weather or what, but this was not the murphy team I'm used to seeing. Team just seem a little sluggish at times. Hopefully they come out a little stronger this Friday night and make a good opening statementioned for the playoffs.

One of the few times I will pull for Murphy to lay a flat out a$$ whoopin on a team. Hope the Dawgs beat the brakes off of Bishop and send them packing on that loooong 6hr+ bus ride back to where they came from!!! Can you say 1st and 10 Buuuuuuuuuulldogs?!

Thanks Smctrain...you know when our football is not very good year after year it gets kind of difficult in the fall when we keep getting scheduled as the homecoming opposition. Guess we need to get one of your recruiting co-ordinators from over there in the mountains to come to the triad to help us.

mbdfan...nothing but respect for Murphy and your great football tradition. Just wanted some of our fellow posters to hear the good news from this past weekend in case they missed it. Our kids will play hard on Friday night but it will be a running clock pretty early.

Are you saying someone is recruiting?

Bishop's not recruiting that's for sure, otherwise we wouldn't be one and done every year in the playoffs and be everyone's homecoming opponent. Need to look at those SMC ways of doing things.......

The SMC has something that Bishop doesn't have when it comes to Football, and that's Tradition....Teams up here don't generally have to recruit because a lot of kids want to play for their home area schools, and most if not all of these communities are big supporters of youth football, so there's a built-in feeder program for most if not all of the current SMC teams with lots of those kids eventually playing on the varsity level....Rosman's youth play in a different league over here than the other SMC members, due to the distance, but the league has 16 youth teams with 2 8-team divisions...Rosman's midget team has won or played in the Championship game on several occasions, and there are a lot of those kids who are now playing on the Varsity team....I'm sure the same can be said for all the other SMC teams...Youth Football is vital if you want to keep kids interested in playing the sport of football, which is attacked on seemingly a daily basis by the Right-Wing Media Types....

Rick,,,,that's why Bishop will never be a threat in football, because the feeder schools do not have football programs. The majority of Bishop's football team hasn't played until they become freshman, way too late.

Funny recycled, a poster like yourself that doesn't understand that I was poking fun at you guys that think that Bishop recruits. Guess that you're just not smart enough to figure that out.

Bishop McGuinness Private School might want to reconsider even having a football team after this Friday night. Welcome to Smoky Mountain Conference football and enjoy that looooong bus ride. Might be even loooooooonger on the way back home!!! :D

Don't really get all the animosity towards Bishop. Good Lord!!! The game will be somewhat lopsided!!! Some of the Bishop kids will make good hits and good plays but will not get credit for it. No they will not reconsider having football after this game. Half of Bishop's team will not be going to hospitals in meat wagons just because they are playing a SMC team. The kids will enjoy the experience of the bus ride to and from and the experience of playing a playoff game against one of the State's 1A Powerhouses.

I don't know how much Bishop recruits but I assume they do some because every program in Forsyth County does from private schools to the public 4A power houses of East Forsyth and West Forsyth. They are still 1A and very low on the totem pole as far as getting athletes there to play football and especially with WS Prep in the picture. Any school public or private who say they do not recruit for athletic purposes is flat out lying including the SMC!!! How many athletes have Swain County pulled from Cherokee??? I know there was a few on the team that lost to SW Onslow in the State Championship in 2012.

I am not a supporter of Bishop but have followed their program for years. They do not have the resources or funding that State supported schools get and I am amazed at how well they have competed over the years. Nobody who is a highly recruited football player goes to Bishop thinking they will improve their chances of a scholarship like blue chip basketball players flock to Oak Hill Academy.

Lastly I give the SMC all the credit for the successes they have had on the 1A level over the years (and I emphasize 1A level) but think it is funny from a lot of posts from the SMC supporters in this forum and even in this thread that you have to grow up with mountain goats to know how to hit lol!!!!

Funny 3d some of us never accused Bishop of recruiting, just that they should be in another classification due to the advantages they are afforded. I guess your not smart enough to realize that. I also guess you are not smart enough to understand the concept of irony. Finally, you accuse 4th of shortcomings, my question to you is why are you interested in another man's "shortcomings". Guess that tells us a lot about you.

I'll take my retribution any way I can get it 3D. If it means me thoroughly enjoying watching Bishop get a good ole fashioned country a$$ whoopin' on the football field then that's fine by me. I'm sure there are lots of fans of "traditional" public schools around NC that feel the same way!!!

We have one kid that is new(2or3 years) and he is from South America. He heard of our football team and walked across the boarder to become a part of it. He doesn't play much. He only kicks. You caught us.
You cant make this stuff up folks. Good lord. lol.
And what makes you think Swain had kids from Cherokee? Is it because of there race? If so I guess we have be recruiting from Cherokee also. lol. Some ppl should no what they are talking about before opening mouth. Indians live all over WNC and go to the public school in there district just like everyone else. Well, not like everyone else. BM.....

And Tiger, what is a right wing media? I have heard of left wing media because that is what the media is 90-% of the time.
