Ah yes the wild and wacky world of the WPAC. This is probably the oddest season of JV ball I've seen in this conference so far.
Forbush has went from 10+ game losing streak to being undefeated. It's hard to say if it's their talent level being better or if their first two teams were bad. Their next two games will show their talents off as they have a fundamentally solid North Wilkes squad tonight and a speedy Carver team next week. If they pass both of these then they will be the favorite; if not who knows how this conference will go.
West Stokes opened the season off with a close win over South Stokes but have taken their lumps since then. Mount Airy had a good offensive night, and Starmount battled to a late win. However West will probably turn it around in conference play. West hasn't had a down JV season in years.
North Surry's very yoing compared to last season as the sophmores of the 2016 squad are varsity aged now; and the starting QB and WR #1 from the JV squad in '16's on varsity. It's been a tale of growing pains for the 'Hounds but there has been improvement between games. Despite the score they played East Surry very well. They have one more tough test this week before they start conference play next Thursday.
Atkins is also younger this season as they lost a lot of their sophmores from an improved 2016 squad. It's hard to tell what the Camels strength is; granted they have put up 42 points but 80% of that came from their game vs. Parkland. Besides that it's been rough outings for the Camels vs. RJR and Reagan. It's gonna be hard to say which team will be in Toast next week vs. North in the conference opener. Walkertown's in the same situation as well. They gave up 30+ to East Wilkes last week which wasn't expected by many especially after playing Parkland tough. Tonight's game and the conference opener will show to what the Wolfpack has.
Carver meanwhile is hard to figure. Defensively besides giving up 49 last week they have played West Forsyth and Glenn somewhat okay even if their offense is anemic at best. They face that Parkland squad tonight who let Atkins and Walkertown have good nights so who knows what will happen. Next week they got Forbush in a game that could throw the conference in a headspin. It's hard to expect with this team..
