I've been away from the computer a few days, so I'm going to weigh in now on the basketball situation. Let me begin by saying that I haven't listened to or watched a single second of hoops this year. And I haven't missed it. Between Rick's "coaching" and the usual offseason drama, I decided I was done with hoops until major changes were made. And frankly, I'm happier for it. With that said, here's how I see it:

1. Sidney is a worthless head case. Talented? Yes. But worthless.
2. I don't care who started the fight.
3. Teammates fight more often than most know, but it's almost always behind closed doors during practice.
4. A public fight between teammates, especially on national tv, is inexcusable. It's a black eye to both the program and the university.
5. Rick should be fired at season's end. And it no longer has anything to do with Ws & Ls or his ability (or lack thereof) with Xs & Os. I don't care if Rick wins out this year. It shouldn't matter. Unless you've got a serious agenda, are willfully blind, or are terrified of change, it's become clear that Rick has totally lost control of the program. We've discussed the transfers, chemistry issues, lack of conditioning, etc. ad nauseum the last 2-4 years, but this incident should be the proverbial straw that breaks the proverbial camel's back.
6. Being allowed to change assistants shouldn't cut it. Rick has had 13 years to make significant staff changes and has refused to make them. While I admire the loyalty, that also leaves Rick alone to point the finger at for the mess the program has become now. He has to fall on the sword, not his puppets.
7. Stricklin and Keenum better sack up in the offseason and do what's right. It's painful, but it has to be done. We'll see just what type of leadership we really have come March.

That's how I see it. We can discuss the different incidents that establish a complete lack of control by Rick until the end of time, but the fight is the culmination of the last several years.

We all know he's not going to change his philosophies. He's had plenty of time to do that. It's time to force the change - assuming we can afford it. That's a big assumption though...

obviously the whole incident was inexcusable, but I would have to say whoever started it was the bigger dubmass. I can't disagree with anything else you wrote.

...asst. coach last year. #1) He wasted it on a yes man, instead of a qualified up and comping basketball strategist. #2) Why would we give him another year with the caveat that he make assistant coach changes when he hired a coach after last year's disappointing season? That would've been like telling Jackie that Ron Cooper didn't work out, so we'll give you another year to try somebody else.

thanks to the "Clemson scare" contract extention, not to mention the "we might lose the signees (they arent recruits anymore- they signed)" mentality too many of our supporters have.

...and it's getting to the point that we can't afford not to make a change. Even if we have to really gamble on some bargain bin asst. coach, and even if that fails, this program needs a house cleaning in the worst way.

If he is coach next year, then we don't really care about basketball. And I'll be bitterly disappointed, because the opportunity is sitting there to become a sustainable basketball power in the SEC, but it gets further and further away as each day passes with the current situation.

MSUArrowCS and I were discussing the program on Christmas Eve. Arrow made the statement "This is worse than Jackie's program ever got. Grant was right there and that didn't seem to phase them at all. Keenum needs to step in if no one else will." I think he's absolutely right. Jackie's program may have been a supposed mess, but none of the players took the dissension public like this. And it further shows that the assistant coaches are either inept or have no power because Rick won't back them. Either way, this mess falls squarely on Rick's shoulders. The Recruiter should pay the price for the circus that is MSU basketball.

and are "done" with State basketball... why the 17 are you putting your two cents in? If you haven't seen Sidney play, how could you possibly determine his talent or worth? I'm not on Stansbury's side of the fence right now, but it's rather pointless to entertain a conversation from someone who hasn't watched our team at all this year. Sorry, man...

I agree with most of your post but that comment in number 5 I have to disagree with. Winning out would put us at 25-5 and SEC champs. I would take that any day of the week and I don't care if Sidney smacks Bailey in the face with his ball sack on national television. We are lying to ourselves if we say this is about alot more than wins or losses. The level of complaining would dialed down about a hundred notches if we were 13-0.

That being said, anything less than an NCAA bid should result in an entire coaching change.

If, and only if, we make it to the elite 8, then I say he can stay. Barring that highly unlikely eventuality, he should be gone. Everything else I agree with.

Stansbury has done a horrendous job the last couple of years but it is not like we have had players fighting in the stands or players getting arrested on regular basis over his 13 seasons at State. For the most part, he and his teams have represented MSU well from a public relations standpoint. This event in Hawaii was embarrassing but lets not pretend like this has been going on for years.
If we end up this year at 25-5 or 24-6 or hell even 23-7 then that is a pretty damn good year considering the suspensions and the turmoil even if it is all self inflicted. If he does that then unquestionably he deserves another year. If he only makes the NIT then he can pack his bags and get out.

For a program that has had mostly the same coaching staff for years and years, this has to be the most unstable mess I can recall seeing. The thing that has bothered me for years is the constant transfer rate out of the program. That kills us every year and keeps us from making serious forward progress. It really is ridiculous that we can't get moving in the right direction because we keep signing guys only to lose them 2-3 years in due to transferring.

This program went from being filled with guys like Bowers, Frazier, Zimmerman, etc. to being filled with either untalented hacks or talented headcases. This program hasn't been the same since 2005. Rick just isn't good at all with headcases.

I, like you, have been very uninterested in this basketball season. I just don't care that much. That part bothers me as much as anything. I feel like I felt during the Crooms Error.

For those 2 points alone, a change should be made. I hadn't really thought about the stability of a staff as it relates to program stability like that, but you make an excellent point. You just don't see problems like this from a staff that has been together as long as this one.

I just don't see how this circus can be blamed on anyone but Rick. It's time to do a very painful, but very necessary, thing if we're serious about moving forward as a program. The culture needs a change.
