Life interrupted my weekend, so basically I missed about the whole thing. Got caught up on the game via the game thread at a couple points.

So thanks to everyone who contributed there.

I did manage to get in front of a TV for at 45 seconds, and saw Harbor s long td. Further cementing in my mind that I am the teams good luck charm. For any of you who are superstitious, or even a little stitious.

Sounds like OL is still a work in progress, as is the running game. We need both to take stress off Sellers.

I saw we have a replacement for Mrs Satterfield, who spent every game thread melting down and "screaming" at anyone not buying the referee conspiracy theory, or anyone not posting positively enough. Made it feel like the old rivals board for a little while there. :)

All in all, we played meh, but won. We need to improve a bit before we take on quality SEC teams, instead of a lower tier ACC team. But we started like this last year, and improved.

I think VT will surprise people in the ACC.

Our OL, well, what can I say except I was not surprised.

We don't block well for the run.

Sellers is still great

Defense is fast

Keep an eye on Fred Johnson

Harbor is a beast

Other receivers are young

We won

For the offense struggling for a good chunk in the middle of the game, Sellers still came up with four or five plays that could be on a Heisman reel.

My thoughts:

1. Obviously, just like everyone else, I saw an OL that literally let guys run past them without touching them. They get no push in the interior. Sellers will eventually get hurt. He took a HUGE blindside sack during the game.
2. Sellers held on to the ball a little too long at times, but he's a great scrambler so I can accept that.
3. If our player had taken a knee in the endzone with the interception instead of trying to run it out, we wouldn't have given up a safety.
4. I know this is a hot take, but I actually think Adaway is our best back at the moment. He seems to get positive yards every time he touches the ball.
5. I was pleasantly surprised with the D line, but equally unimpressed with the secondary.
6. This is another hot take, BUT if Harbor had just kept both hands on the ball in the endzone and landed on his back, it would have been a TD, but he tried to go to the ground one-handed.
7. I think VT was a better team than most pre-season people are giving them credit for. I think they'll probably move up towards the top of the ACC.
8. There was a point in the game in which I thought we would lose 11-10.
9. I am really happy we won.

One play that I just KNEW was going to come back to bite us was Beamer opting for the re-kick instead of taking the 5 yards from the end of the return. Given our history, it was a virtual guarantee that on the re-kick, the punter would have unleashed a 75 yard bomb that we muffed to set VaTech up for a TD.

As it is, it was a perfect call by Beamer and perfect execution of the return.

Fred Johnson impressed the hound out of me.
ā€œI feel like with them saying that we lost a lot of players and just questioning what we had on
defense, I feel like they found out today for sure. Yeah, it’s not the old team,ā€ Johnson said.

ā€œWe’ve got a lot of weapons on defense as well. We replaced a lot of good shoes. I’d say this year we’re probably more talented than we were last year,ā€ Swain said.

100% I was yelling to take the successful change of possession, like you, fearing disaster on a re-kick. 😁

The Tech kicker actually did get a better kick on the re-kick, getting it down the 20 after the previous kick had gone out at the 26. So that part was true. But we know what happened, of course.

The second punt was about 10 yds longer than the first and those 10 yds meant he outkicked his coverage. If he kicks the exact same punt, we fair catch around the 30.

Gotta love the Botman misdirection plays.

Botman - You need to move away from the "life interrupted" line.

You've used this many times with different BOTs in hopes of sowing separation between your characters.

From what I see, most of the King's horsemen were present on Saturday's thread doing their thing.

Maybe this is the reason Lurker was able to catch 45 seconds and still start a thread with a complete breakdown. :)
