My apologies to John Cohen and his scrappy bunch...

I made several disparaging remarks throughout the season, including referring to many of these teams freshmen and sophomores being better than our juniors and seniors. But the poise of these upperclassmen are why Mississippi State is 2-0 and one win away from playing for a National Championship.

When Trey Porter missed that 2-0 pitch by 3 feet, I nearly flipped out of my chair, but that dang senior hung in there and got the pitch he wanted....my goodness these guys are dangerous when they are cornered.

I don't think I've ever seen a hitter look so f'n bad and then so f'n good on back-to-back pitches than Porter's at bat.

And let's not forget the guy most responsible for all of us being on the verge of a stroke instead of not caring a bit about the CWS. That guy is Chad Girodo. Where would we be without his season?

His first at-bat was the same thing. He absolutely crushed a ball that would've been out of most parks - except Yellowstone, and TD Ameritrade.

He worked his way into trouble a few times but got out of it again and again. His story over his career has been pretty amazing if time is taken to think about it.

Girodo is the MVP of the postseason, and it's not even close. He has been flat out dominant out of the bullpen in all of his postseason appearances. He is the piece that gives our bullpen the depth it has, and that's what has gotten us one win from playing for a national title.

Porter was sitting on a fast ball and thought he had it on that first swing and miss. He did have it on the second one.

Bingo. He looked bad because dude threw him 2 straight sliders... had a 2-0 count, and porter was sitting on fastball. Pitcher had a lot of guts to throw that slider with bases loaded and a 2-0 count like that... hell of a pitch by him. Glad porter got the last laugh, though
