..demanding Chizik be fired over his recruiting class. Used phrases like... just got butt17'ed by Saban... worst recruiter in the history of AU football.. would have already been fired if he hadn't landed Cam...

I just let him vent and tried to hide my smile like Dan did today.

The one that did so horribly at Iowa. With their Starting QB and stud running back gone, if we can't beat the Barn this year at the crib, we won't ever.

So Chiz had a tough row to hoe at The Iowa State University. I just throw that out there in an attempt to be objective. He is going to have trouble competing with Saban in recruiting and on the field from this point forward. They took the 180k quick fix with Newton and went all the way. Now we will get to see how good he can really coach. I don't like the smug bastach, but I thought he exceeded expectations at AU this past season. I think AU will still be in the upper half of the SEC Western Division talent wise and thus should be there in the win loss column as well. State needs to keep chipping away to close the gap. The Bulldogs cannot challenge Alabama, LSU, or SasnakrA until they can climb over AU and aTm. State shat the bed big time by losing to AU in 2011. That one loss was the difference between maintaining mo and gathering incremental national respect vs having a somewhat successful yet unquestionably slightly disappointing campaign. The division is unbelievably tough. We have to maintain continuity and momentum, hope UMiss stays in a funk, and hope AU gets desperate enough to get caught cheating again and finally pays a price for it. A little controversy at LSU couldn't hurt either. In order for State to ascend the ladder, it will take continued competence in Starkville and incompetence elsewhere. Luck is always welcome, too. When they expand DWS, they need to do something really special to appease the dead Indians.

..I don't know jack **** about Auburn's recruiting class & am not going to go look it up.

So what's the story?

Saban out recruits them every year, so why is he pissed about that?

all you folks need to just put that thought out of your heads now. The NCAA is not that interested in RECRUITING violations anyway and Slive and the SEC office is going to protect all SEC members even if they were. I can't hardly remember the last time the NCAA put someone on probation for actual recruiting violations. Oh yea, they get their panties in a wad when guys are selling autographed jerseys or living in paid apartments after they are on campus and in school but they are NOT concerned with recruiting violations. That's just the current environment we are in.

There are two reasons they are upset in my opinion.

1. Alabama is #1. On the field and on the fax. You know how well that sits with Auburn people.
2. I think Auburn sort of got put in their place today. They are not the national program they seem to think they are - like Bama, Texas, Ohio State, Florida State, etc. They pursued the best of the best from all over the place and whiffed on many of them and didn't keep enough guys warm to fill out the class. The ones they got are good but they missed on some great ones (Yeldon, Armistead, DGB, Goldman, etc). Like I said, they got some very good players according to stars and stuff, but not as many as they expected.

You hit it dead on the head. Chizik thought they could compete nationally for guys like Goldman/DGB. He gambled and he lost. Still, not a horrible class at all. Just a horrible class by AU standards and a horrible class when compared to Bama and FSU this year.
