My beef with the walrus...

I have been involved in various capacities with the MS State program for several years now. After years of seeing piss poor special teams, I would like to make note of something. In 2005, I recall a summer camp in which two kids (both from Ripley, MS) showed up. One was an all-state kicker, the other a punter. Scott Westerfield and myself agreed that they were most certainly D-1 material. They were in-state kids, no discipline issues, and solid players. The performance of these two guys stood out at the camp. However, on the last day of camp (a Sunday morning), Croom and Famous Amos took Blake McAdams and Justin Sparks (of Ole Miss fame) aside and COMPLETELY ignored everyone else. It was pretty incredible to watch. I talked to these kids afterwards, and they were disgruntled at best. I knew we had lost the punter, and wasn't sure about the kicker.

Well Croom, that punter you shafted went on to be A JUCO pre-season All American at MS Gulf Coast Community College and now punts for SELA. I would also like to add that he is averaging 39 yards per punt versus McAdams 36.2. The kicker you shafted eventually walked on at State after being warned by former players no to do so. It appeared there was some kind of deal with Famous Amos and Carlson. Hence, the screw job of Keith Andrews. Once he had been lied to one too many times and seeing the signing of Mr. Richards, he said screw it. Nice job Croom. Carlson is 21-35 for his career to this point. Not exactly honorable. Richards has been a wash, and I'm being generous.

Needless to say, our special teams play has cost us numerous wins.

Keep up the good work Croom. You are obviously a fine judge of talent. Those kickoffs to the 30 are superb! And we both know that the reason you take a knee before the first half is because, deep down, you know you don't have a chance at a field goal. And the shanks on the punting team are a riot!! Where'd you find that talent??

P.S. Next time you cry after practice, make sure your assistants don't run their mouth about it. And give ol' Mr. Stringer a raise.

My only thought on this is: Would you have really wanted Famous Amos, Mr. Stringer and the rest of the staff 17ing these guys careers up as well. Hell I have thought that Croom has brought Famous Amos back with how terrible our Not-So-Special teams are this year.

crying incident some time ago, it is the truth. It was midway through Croom's third 3 win season. He had meltdown after practice and asked his assistants what should he do. You can or cannot choose to believe this, but it was told by an assistant coach.

As for these 17in mofo's screwing up kids, I agree. It's really a damn shame that in-state kids with great talent get the screw job. Terry Grant, it looks like you made the right choice.

Yea after reading that story how croom wanted to quit made me feel bad for the guy after we won 8 last year. Now i feel like a gigantic dumass. He should have quit while he was ahead.

he has too much pride. And he is NOT a good recruiter. The man acts like he's doing kids a favor by "letting" them play at MS State. Wtf? I have never been a supporter of him, nor will I get wooly if we get a win.

I hope we've enjoyed recent success against Alabama, because they're gonna beat us like a red-headed step child.</p>

They won't . I predict that, after BAmmer gets a 3 touchdown lead on us by the middle of the first quarter, Saban has JPW take a knee for the rest of the game.
