This poll may be a little east basis, but so am I. When was Northumberland's last playoff win or better than a third place finish in the NND? Not saying they don't have all the makings to make the jump this year, but they still have a lot to prove before they start jumping into top 5 considerations.

George Wythe should be #3 no one else in 1A can beat them other than the top two teams. I'm from the east and honestly its probably going to be a repeat of last years title game. Gw fans I no your team is good but Sussex will out point riverheads for the # 1 spot and you all are highly unlikely to beat riverheads.GW best case scenario for the title game is to be the # 2 seed coming out the west. GW has a better chance of beating Sussex than they do riverheads

There will not be a repeat of last year despite the speculation that has been posted here. Region A will host Region B in the state semifinals. You can look it up if you want: http://www.vhsl.org/football/
Go to resources and click on football playoff format to download the pdf that explains everything although several regions in the state have yet to report their playoff formats.

There are no longer East and West. Region A winner vs Region B winner and Region C winner vs Region D winner, then A/B plays C/D for championship

Excellent points riversportsfan. However, I stand by my rankings as of now.

Of course, we will see how it turns out. I could be way off, but I don't think so. I had put NHS 6th behind a rising FC until I was reminded that FC is now 2A. The only other team right now that I would put at 5th is George Wythe. I just do not think that they are an elite team at the moment. I know many will disagree and that is just fine. Polls are fun to debate.

Northumberland does indeed have a lot to prove as the Indians have not been super strong in over 20 years. As long as their stars stay healthy, I think they are one of the best in 1A this season. Coaching staff is doing a great job.

As for an East bias, maybe, but 7 of the 12 teams listed are geographically speaking Western teams. I know two big ones are in Region B according to the VHSL which is what matters, of course, for the playoffs.

I think that the only three elite teams (right now) are my top 3. Galax has an outstanding coaching staff so they get a top 4 spot.

It is a shame that only one of the "Eastern" teams will have an opportunity to advance to the title game, especially since Riverheads is right in the middle of East/West Virginia but takes an Eastern spot if they advance.

I agree with uvacavs1 Northumberland is a very strong team with talent everywhere. Congrats to the young coach on the job he's doing so far. If the Indians stay healthy and focused they can compete with any team in the state

Only way GW will play RH or Sussex is in Salem for the title. If and I say IF we can come together and win C we will play the winner of D for a chance to go to state.

I was not aware of the changes this year well guess GW will make it to the title game after all . I wonder what/who prompt the change. I thought the previous system was great for everyone because the best from east plays the best from the west. now this year you take a team like GW with a clear/easy path to the title because no one will be able to beat them in region c or d. While the teams from the east will beat each other up to get to the title game. I think the best two teams should play for the title this is my opinion.

They just went back to the Region format and as I've said elsewhere I don't think D has a real contender. So imo the C winner will play for the title but anything can happen under the lights.

I Agree anything can happen under the lights. I would not mind seeing a 20 team statewide tournament where the top ten teams from the west and top ten teams from the east combined together by power ratings top four teams get a first round bye. some teams will never get the opportunity to travel out east or west because of the current setup.
