I had Comcast for internet and DirecTV for "cable".

Uverse came along, so I gave Comcast & DirecTV the finger.

Just depending on if your neighborhood has been upgraded. Copper can only carry so much bandwidth, so tv and internet can interfere with each other. If you have fiber, no bottleneck. Around me, Uverse only offers AT&T dsl,no real broadband Internet. It differs elsewhere. Funny, I live two miles from the recent AT&T headquqrters and can't get it.

I switched for the TV. My TV package is better and cheaper than what I had with DirecTV (which was already cheaper than what most people get due to grandfathering). It's outstanding for TV except for user friendliness of the receiver. There is no way ignore or hide SD duplicates - except to customize the guide by individually hiding hundreds of SD channels.

Even then, SD program listing spam can still be problematic in certain situations. Say you runs search for "Swamp People". It will come back with SD and HD airings, it's up to you to select the HD airing to record.

They @%!@#%$ drive me nuts with their insistence on spamming me with SD viewing options. WTF. DirecTV receivers will dutifully ignore SD duplicates. Not Uverse.

I seriously feel that they and every other content provider shouldn't carry SD duplicate channels at all. There is no reason to carry a SD version of say NBC. Anyone with a SD TV is already capable of watching downscaled HD content. HDTV owners sure as hell don't want to see the SD versions. So what's the point?

No probs with Internet - even if I did have to show the tech how to setup my superior Cisco wifi behind their box. I wish it wasn't DSL though. I'm getting 12 down and 1.5 up. Could do more if I paid for it. With Comcast I had 12 down, 6 up.

going on day three of having it in baton rouge. A few things I've noticed:<div>
</div><div>1. Internet- you get what you pay for. I'm paying for the 18mbps speed and so far every time I've run a speed test it's been almost exactly 18. Also it's a dedicated line, so when all the students get back here it shouldn't bog it down much (if any). Been taking this opportunity to download some of the shows from the other thread.</div><div>
</div><div>2. TV- I got the family package, it said it had like up to 120 channels. Sounds great right? WRONG, I have almost no channels. I have the local channels, history channel, science, discovery, national geographic, and then about 30 shopping network shows and another 30 religious programs. However, the picture has been great.</div><div>
</div><div>Land line phones are a waste to me, but I hear that isn't too bad either.</div><div>

Dad, asked me to pick him an HD TV and get him set up. He got a nice LED HD and we got him an HD receiver. I will still walk in and look at the tv and see them watching "their shows" on the SD channels because it is what they know.

I tried to explain the Guide to them and even printed out a list of HD channels and their numbers. Doesn't matter. If State or the Saints are playing, they will call me at game time and ask what channel the game is on in HD.
