My experience at Heinz Field

I attended the Pitt/UL game yesterday. We sat in the UL section as my wife's family is from there.

The atmosphere is what I expected...maybe a step louder than attending a funeral. I just about fell asleep a couple of times and the only thing that kept me awake was the brief gust of winds that occurred.

Anyways wanted to share the experience UL fans had with security. If someone stood up and cheered after a play and continued standing (perhaps for a big 3rd down) security would come over and ask them to sit down. (Keep in mind that this occurred in the UL section) This happened so many times that when a UL fan would stand up other UL fans would yell at them sarcastically to sit down. Several UL fans was taking pictures of the security guards and I'm sure they will share their horrible experience with Pitt/Heinz Field.

I'm so glad we don't have Pitt on the schedule full-time!

I'm so glad I'm a Mountaineer and we play in an exciting conference!

They do that to Pitt fans too. It's a *****. People will literally yell at each other to sit down. I understand that you're trying to denigrate Pitt and Heinz Field but you and your wife are not special. This is a nuisance for everyone who wants to stand.

I think Justin's is more believable then your response....pittie....Nothing they do at that hole of a field would surprise me....ask Cincinatti and Patriot fans about their visits there for Stiller games....Classless.

Narduzzi needs to raise Hell about it, John. He's having a good year, getting that program turned around and friggin' security guards are robbing him of a potential home field advantage. Who's calling the shots up there, Paul Blart?

If they want college football at the Heinz, they need to allow a college game atmosphere.

Atriedes, I really don't care what you think. I was a season ticket holder until 13-9 was followed up by a loss to BGSU. My opinion is more informed than Justin's, especially considering he didn't have any genuine rooting interest.

Mike, on the other hand is absolutely correct. It is as if mall cops are running the show and this is what's killing the atmosphere. People don't want to go to a football game and sit on their hands but for some reason that's exactly what goes down.

Best 2 experiences I've ever had up there were in 2002 & 2006. Security guards never said a word to me.

In 2002, which was the highest attended football game ever there, pitt fans were seated in the section below me. They scored first and turned and yelled and talked noise. I simply hollered back at 1 of the fat old barkers to 'come and see me in the second qtr'. The last play of the 1st qtr WVU took the lead and the game never had a tie nor did WVU trail.

I barked back continuously and yelled, "why won't you talk back to me? I want to be your friend." My favorite was, "I know you can't hear me. Don't let the fact pitt sux stop you from enjoying my company. You're lucky WVU & our fans will fill the Steelers' stadium." I cemented the day with, "No matter how good Fitzgerald is, Walt Harris is still your coach!" I figured there would be a good fight at some point that My barking contributed to/caused, but the result of the game just killed the spirit of the pitt fans. Ben Collins batting down the 4th down pass sealed it.

In 2006, WVU just had fun. I remember MacAfee made the longest fg ever at that time at Heinz field. At that pint I knew the game was over.

Both games ended with WVU & fans singing Country Riads upon leaving.

Our board Pittie, so you just have to put up with me. Message boards are for "opinions"....you gave your bit....I gave mine....I Hate Pitt....I am not ashamed to say that. Now, I can give credit when its due. see my comments about Mr. Narduzzi.....and yeah...I have a negative bias....on that basis toward Pitt. Now, maybe being in different conferences might cause some to Forget. I don't really care for the sports scene in the Burgh overall....again another bias. I think Heinz sucks....for many reasons....I will Never go back there for any event....a real hole. But again....an opinion.

Heinz was built to low standards, even for its day, and is slowly getting crushed in comparison to the new(er) stadiums. The Rooney family had a chance to build a STEEL stadium that could have been bad ***. Instead the build a cheap fiberglass & aluminum looking ******** with zero character. That and Pitt playing there doesn't help.

Well......I'm glad your conference is exciting to you.... but it's looking more likely that they'll sit out the college football playoff for the second straight year.

As for the Pitt-WVU rivalry..... I hope you guys win out and that the chips fall into place for the Backyard Brawl to be played at the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando. If not, good luck anyway.
