Coach Pope is here again next year. We have opinioned this board to death about what we think of Pope and his inefficiencies. I agree, it looks grim right now and he may not be the guy, but he's back next year. So let him have his year.

In his defense, I don't think he thought JQ and Lowe wouldn't be playing at the end of the year. In addition to that, maybe there was dissension in this year's team, and he didn't want to throw kids under the bus, so he made lame excuses.

And before you hamburger this thread, remember Cal went to NIT with 5 stars. Sometimes it doesn't pan out.

Let's see if he can make the changes.

Prepare to be hammered and called all kinds of names. But you aren't wrong. He's here for a third year regardless of what we want, might as well hope for the best and not be ugly about it. But that's way too much to ask of this fan base.

Exactly.

I think what some want is to let him have his 3rd year and there not be criticisms and complaints. Well no can do. The problem is not him getting a 3rd year, that's happening and expected. The problem is he should have not been given the job.

I’m with you. It doesn’t look like Pope is the guy moving forward, BUT he’s going to be the coach next year and I am going to support my team and hope for the best.

If next season is as bad as many are expecting it to be, we move on a year from now. A new administration will be hiring a new coach.

If Pope somehow reverses his career trajectory of winning 6.3 of every 10 games and takes the Cats on a run, many of us will owe the guy an apology or at least a “my bad”

I was raised that if you’re complaining about something and not offering a viable solution or have no control over what you’re complaining about, you’re just bitching and no one wants to hear it. That’s pretty much my dad’s exact words.

He can have his third year. Doesn’t mean people have to be happy about it and it sure doesn’t mean we just have to shut up and cheer go pope. Until he starts winning or is fired I’ll post how terrible he is as much as I want to.

Low IQ people tend to never have solutions or discussions, just uneducated opinions and arguments. 🤣

You’re such a great fan for constantly complaining. 🤣 😬

relying on JQ and no back up pg is poor roster management and his fault if he is too stubborn at for a gm.

if he wins 64% again next year there is no world he ever gets beyond that and needs to go.

If Donovan goes to north Carolina then no amount of rifle championships can save Barnfarts legacy.

Cal went to the NIT with 5 stars , the best of which tore his acl during the season. Also , he won the chip the year before he went to the NIT, that gives a coach some grace for the NIT.

It’s people trying to impose their misery. The funny thing as that they’ll watch every game like the rest of us, so they are chasing their own tails.

If he does show marked improvement over his career average, I will say job well done. I don't think an apology would be appropriate because that would say I was wrong. Well it's not wrong to say so far it's been very medicore.

Yes you can post it as often as you wish, but when that is all is said over and over no matter the thread, it gets very old. Thankfully the ignore button is an option so that those that do not wish to read the same constantly do not have to.

Lowe and JQ playing isn't likely any different of an outcome.

I think that way over simplifies it Jed. I’m sure there are some that don’t want to hear complaints but the vast majority would like to start a thread on how to attack a 1-3-1 zone without it being inundated with “Pope Pumper, 63%, stop slobbing on Pope’s knob”. It’s every thread.

I wish we’d moved away from him on Monday but that doesn’t mean I think if I ruin every thread that pops up that it will magically happen.

Appreciate what you do here.

This board has pretty much been ruined. Nothing can be talked about without half the posters or more parroting "fire Dope!" We get it guys. Most of us even agree. But it's gotten old real quick. Let's see what happens this year. If it's a bad year again, he'll be gone. Constant bitching, at least on here, isn't moving the needle.

UK is about to repeat Stoops last year (aka dead man walking)......on the basketball side.

1. We lose Oweh and Aberdeen....best 2 players
2. We have zero recruits to bring in top tier talent
3. Only Moreno has big potential upside to bank on....(I'd argue Kam/Chandler have some potential to improve but not huge left to grow IMO)
4. Pope looks like he's living to his mediocre resume at UK now....cant' get his teams to defend, play hard each night is not consistent, etc...

So sure, let's do year 3 of Pope and inevitably fire him next year.

I expect to be able to read this board without every thread turning into "Pope is terrible" or "Fire Pope" discussion. Since most reasonable people know that another year is all but certain, just let it go until at least a few games into next season. Then have at it.
The odd thing is that I too have begun to have serious doubts as to whether CP can be successful here, but since he will probably be the coach at least one more year, I do not want to spend the next 8-9 months reading the same negativity over and over. Especially the childish behavior of the name calling, not only towards CP but also toward anyone(Popes dopes) who says anything postive or just general discussion about UK. No., I do not take the name calling personal, I just get tired of reading such nonsense and if that is all one can contribute I'll add the individual to my growing list of ignored posters.

Nobody posting on here made the decision to keep him for a 3rd year. That decision was made by the AD. Write letters and complain to them if you want. None of us have any control over it, stop acting like we do.

I get it but also wtf is the point of being super negative? We know hes going to get his 3rd year so try to be positive about it.. I understand you might be upset but living your life and hobbies this way is just not good for your mental health. Once that year is thru then we can go on a new coaching search

My question is will he be stuck in his ways or will he learn from his mistakes? He's talking so far like he has learned, his saying that, he is going to emphasize targeting players who excel at breaking down defenses and creating offense through penetration, this is huge, if he follows through. I really believe he's going to get some difference makers, he's desperate and has money.
I do worry that he doesn't have a culture of toughness that I can tell.

Lol. It's mainly the message board folks. They lost this stuff because they hide behind a user name.

We had lowe who went down, and they figured Jasper could back him up being a combo guard. We lost the kid from villanova, he was supposed to be backup because of his daddy.

Jq situation was a mess, high risk, high reward. We got the crap end of it. That was biggest mistake and roster substitutions to get players experience. People saying whiff this, when we have 11 players who could come back are ignorant. I don't think any major team has 11 players back.

Ones calling him dork, dope, etc I guarantee are big fat losers in real life. He obviously can recruit while most of you got rosie o donald lookalikes as wives.

Unless Pope walks away he’s gonna be here next year. I hope he wins the national championship and I hope he has Kentucky in the hunt for one every year. He would be the perfect coach for Kentucky because he understands it here and he genuinely loves Kentucky. To him it’s his dream job. I was pleasantly surprised by last year but extremely disappointed by this year. If next year is not vastly better then he’s just not the right coach for Kentucky. We might as well hope he rights the ship because he’s here next year no matter what. I would never hope for a Kentucky coach to fail.

Talking about posters posting the same complaints in every thread no matter what the topic. It get's really tiring and makes the place hard to read. It's fully understood that Pope has not met the expectations but he's going to coach here next year. There are a lot of posters who regurgitate the same vomit into every thread. Whining constantly is not something to be proud of.

What was that Bobby Knight quote that got him in hot water back in that day about grape?

Well, that's us...

We might as well try to enjoy it.

All kidding aside, Pope will be here, so nothing positive will come from getting angry and continuing to scream about it.

I'll just sit back and observe and hope for the best.

This time next year I may be screaming the loudest...

I don’t see why it bothers you or anyone else if people post their displeasure, what is the point of making threads complaining about people complaining
