-Let’s do this!

F Hartline..... wasn't he involved in a drunk driving incident that got covered-up by the win-regardless-of-ethics duhO$U??? Didn't the incident also involve people getting seriously injured? No thanks, the one thing we don't need are lying self-interested scumbags who refuse to take responsibility and accountability for their actions.

I think you might have that wrong …

Truly believe that has always been the plan once Elko said no
Can you set forth what you think Hartline would bring to PSU as a head coach? I ask this because I want to be convinced that he would be a good hire for a major college head coaching position when he’s never even been a head coach at even a MAC school to cut his teeth.

I think Sitake is a good man and leader ala his mentor Whittingham. I think he embodies many of the qualities Kraft is looking for.

He's an elite recruiter, he is a great play caller, he is proven to develop players
He has a great reputation because of his NFL career and ability to guys to the NFL
And he's WON
Kirby Smart was never a HC--I don't know why people feel like that's a requirement

The fact that tOSU demoted Hartline from OC to get Chip Kelly is a red flag to me in terms of how his coaching leadership is viewed. I have no doubt he’s a great recruiter but am hesitant about how well he will perform being in charge. If he’s the pick, so be it, but wouldn’t be my choice.

We realize that was done to try to help Ryan Day not because of Hartline, right?
It also wasn't truly a demotion

Sitake seems like a solid choice too, but it just would be so odd for him to both come East in general and leave BYU in particular. Outside of his cup of coffee in the NFL he's never done anything outside of the western US.

Maybe he'll be great but not sure why we are so gung-ho on this guy that nobody else is really after. I feel like Hartline is so high on everyone's wish list is because we simply can't beat them. I'd much rather have a guy like Campbell or Chesney that have actual experience running a program.

He's called plays for one season, let's not get carried away, agree he can recruit.

OSU right now recruits itself; it’s the best program in the country and the second best isn’t even close.

Who says no one else was after him?
I want a young, offensive-minded HC that has proven to be an elite recruiter and has won at the highest level. I'm not saying he's a lock. No one is a lock other than arguably Kirby Smart but he's a great hire on paper...just like Smart was.

2 seasons and worked with Kelly who he likely learned from
Also, look at the different styles of QBs he's called for over 3 years and how he adjusts.

I agree with your general point, but other schools are similar (Georgia in particular comes to mind)

Trust me, I understand apprehension regarding any HC that's hired but Hartline sure looks great on paper

To all the people thinking that being a head coach needs to be a requirement- kirby smart, marcus freeman, ryan day, and dan lanning are all first time head coaches. Hartline has seen success at a super high level and i believe he would know how to run a successful program at PSU. before brian hartline came onto staff at tOSU in 2018, they had 0 five star wide receivers. since he’s been there that number is up to 9. he’s not only recruited talent but he’s also developed it. he had a hand in recruiting cj stroud, justin fields, jt tuimoloau along with the wide receivers. he’s put guys like jaxon smith-njigba, marvin harrison jr, garrett wilson, emeka egbuka, chris olave, and probably a lot more that im missing. the upside on hartline is higher than chesney. surround hartline with a strong veteran staff and he will be successful.

ATV/quad accident on his own property and yes alcohol was involved and injuries did occur from what was reported

Does not matter if it was on his own property (or private property in general) - most states forbid the operation of a vehicle (including even a bicycle) while under the influence. Ditto the use of firearms - for instance, even if you were hunting on private property and you were firing a firearm while under the influence, it is against the law. I believe he also lied to LE (or refused to make himself available to them - can't recall which). And he was not by himself (nor the only party operating a vehicle illegally) when it occurred.

And if they want to go back far enough--JVP was never a HC...that worked out okay

I agree but Bronco Mendenhall before him did the same.

Agree and it's a first degree misdemeanor in most jurisdictions for 1st offense. What might be in question is if you have to submit to a field sobriety test on your own property

Why does anyone care?
We're hiring a football coach not appointing the next pope
I agree. I really don’t want him to be the next PSU head coach, but he’s been employed an an assistant coach at the best football school in the country for the last several years, so they obviously don’t believe that whatever happened disqualifies him from employment.

After 2023, Ohio State wisely brought in a guy with HC experience to work with Day
Kelly needed a title--Harline was still the OC--just added a "co"
It's not like he was demoted to WR coach.
