is that Ole Miss is taking some of the "CUSA Talent" that we recruit.

Of course, Im sure they feel like this guy is really good since he is a 2 star with no other SEC offers (other than om and state) BUT HE IS FROM ALABAMA.

my only question is who do we target for our last 10 spots? I think Mississippi gets Morris, Bell, Singleton, Brassell, and PJ Jones. So I really don't know who that leaves for us.

Ihope we sign Leon Mackey because he will be starting at DE for us next year if we sign him. Other than him, I am pretty indifferent.

Top 10targets:
1. Leon Mackey, Juco DE
2.John Jenkins, Juco DT
3. A HS DT, maybe Chuck Hunter
4. HS DE, maybe Vontarius Dora
5. A LB, no clue. apparently Maleki Harris wasn't that impressive
6. maybe Derrick Milton since we lost Conner
7.another WR,maybe Gabe Gray
8. Joe Price,best available
9. David Reeves, OT/TE
10. Chris Stone, TE

I will throw Korian Chambers on that list too. Juco OL. And maybe Fredrick Moore, a HS OL.

Not a terribly impressive list.

..why don't we allow the ensuing HS football season to play out before filling out all the recruiting spots.

I'm just speculating here, but there will probably be upcoming seniors who are committed who will bomb; there will be upcoming seniors who will emerge out of nowhere & suddenly be a hot recruiting commodity.

The newfound hysteria around trying to fill out your recruiting list even before a bunch of seniors have played their senior seasons is incomprehensible.

Let me end with this: You people paying these idiots for "inside recruiting scoops" are being taken for a ride. Gene Swindoll was revealed to be a quack way back in 1997. But here we are 13 years later having to listen to suckers ***** about Gene's " erroneous information."

Texas is done with recruiting, hell they are almost done with 2012 recruiting. Bama is done. Most offers have been made. If you think we can find 10 diamonds in the rough come October you are sadly mistaken.

Sure one or two players will emerge, but all the coaches have plenty of tape from their junior seasons and springevaluations, not to mention numerous summercamps.

...these days, college football recruiting is a corporate business that intensely evaluates the "product" before making the product an offer.

I understand the new corporate model for college football recruiting ditates that stockpiling for the future is the way to go in the 21st century.

But since there is actually a whole season yet to be played for these committed players, injuries, arrests, underachievement, grades & other unforseen forces will screw up everybody's list. Even the list of Alabama & Texas.

You have to admit that there is a lot of fun with the double secret mystery recruit- it might be Tobias Singleton......and it might be some guy that plays for Ethel that I have never heard of.

I never paid much attention to this kid because everyone thought he was State bound, but he also has offers from Arkansas and Vandy. I know.....who cares, but they are in the SEC; just to correct your claim about OM and State being his only SEC offers. BTW, 2* means he's committed somewhere, but yet to be rated. After he's rated, he may still be a 2*.....who knows.

For the record, if Steve got owned on this, then Yancy did, too. Yancy said nothing except that Wood was headed to State. Wood played everybody; anyone who had 'inside information' had Wood to State because he told the staff himself twice that he was committed and was just waiting to announce it...he told no one he was going to Ole Miss until he told their coaches last night.

Nope.

Yancy said all along that "his source" (for whatever thats worth) felt good about Wood being a rebel, but that HE felt (all along with every other rebel fan) felt Wood was MSU bound. It's pretty obvious Yancy talks with someone on the staff who had a better feel for the whole situation than Yancy, Steve, or Gene.

I have it from one source that State will win the Egg Bowl in 2010 and I also feel that way. I heard from someone else though that Ole Miss will beat State this year.

Am I covered?

NO.

It would go like this...

My sources are cautiously optimistic that OM will win the Egg Bowl in 2010, but I personally feel MSU will win.
Look, you know that I understand what you are saying. But what Yancy posted about Wood is a far cry from telling your flock its a done deal before it happens, going to the school to cover the press conference, and then posting him on your scout commitment board before it was announced. And all of this was done by the group (Steve & his sources) that most posters here previously assured me were way above Yancy's standards.

And don't these guys, Steve included, have the right to be wrong sometimes? I think the way most people evaluate them is how often they are right vs. how often they are wrong. And right now, Yancy is batting at a way higher clip than Steve. It was Steve who claimed Singleton didn't have an MSU offer for a while. It was Steve that pumped people full of sunshine about Senquez, Chief, and Wood, only to be bad wrong. It was Steve who decided to trivialize the recruitment of Chief once he realized he wasn't coming to MSU. It was Steve who did the same thing with Justin Bell after it became apparent that he may commit to MSU. It is Steve telling folks that one of our commitments is secretly recruiting for MSU.

Regarding your commits, Yancy always maintained that he thought Woods was a player even when he thought he would sign with you. Yancy still maintains that James Maiden is a great players who we wanted badly, just not enough to offer Fosselman. Yancy has maintained that Whitehead is a great player that we want badly, but he doesn't see him defecting from MSU. He has never had a bad thing to say about Arrington, Johnson, or Jackson. He still maintains we would take them in a New York minute.

I have documented here many times that I believe Yancy to add a little flare to his post occasionally. I have said that he is right many times if you learn to sift through his ********, ignore the theatrics, and just try to get a feel for what he is telling. But you have to admit, for all the accusations against Yancy, it is actually Steve Robertson who has been employing the tactics that people accuse Yancy of applying. It is Steve with the mystery recruit. It is Steve posting articles and questioning recruits about rumors.

And to all the posters here who are angry at Kameron Wood and would call his character into question for committing to "the plantation", is it any different than Robert Elliot? In all actuality, the Robert Elliot situation was worse.

and yes, he had an offer from Arkansas. I would have been glad to have him, but I 've just never understood what the big deal over him is.

I guess its b/c he is not from MS.

but to come out and play both sides is hilarious. Just say I didn't know, I was wrong, or something. It's recruiting - you will get it wrong.

And have I said before how much I hate recruiting?

The original poster claimed that Yancy had only posted that Wood would be a Bulldog, which is incorrect. For reference, here's the quote, "Yancy said nothing except that Wood was headed to State." Couldn't be further from the truth. Whether you think Yancy's claim is disingenuous or an attempt to cover his *** is a completely different argument than saying Yancy only said that he was a lock for State. I don't think any rational Ole Miss fan would object to Yancy being mocked for a number of things, but he has absolutely dominated Steve lately, and all of the **** directed at him over this is just bitterness. When was the last time Steve was wrong about a recruit and it worked in State's favor?
