My opinion on Favre

This whole "controversy" over Favre every year is more of a product of obsessed, addictive personality, whiney *** people who have the tendency to search for any and every possible thing to ***** about. It's also largely a media creation, because it sells. It brings ratings. You create a controversy and people gather around anxiously to either see what Favre is doing next, or they're on the other side and they complain about how they wish this "self-absorbed prima donna" would just go away. Either way, you're talking about him, and that's what they want you to do.

Personally I believe it's a hell of a lot simpler on Favre's part. He just wants to play and can't give it up. As if that's anything new or special. It's happened throughout history with professional athletes. It happened with Michael Jordan in basketball, even to the point where he made a fiasco out of his sports career by playing minor league baseball with the Birmingham Barons. I still don't quite recall the kind of hatred being spewed his way, however, as what I see and hear all the time over Favre.

I'm not saying you have to like Brett Favre, and I'm not even saying you have to agree that he's one of the greatest to ever play the game. That's actually debatable. He got away with a lot of stuff over the years because his strong arm overcame what would have been disasterous mistakes by any average QB. But I personally like him because of the passion he had, and still has, for the game. What I wish that all these whiney *** people out there would quit judging him on, however, is his penchant for changing his mind,. BIG 17ing DEAL. Like he said in his presser a little while ago, "It's America." Since when does he not have the right to change his freaking mind? And why do some people insist on drumming up more than there probably is, like him wanting to "get revenge" on Green Bay. Seriously???

Maybe I'm just getting old, I don't know, but I'm just sick of the immature, whiney *** bitches that so many people have become over subjects such as Brett Favre. For God's sake, at least save your energy for something in sports that's really worth complaining about, instead of overblown nonsense such as this. ***** about MSU football, like I do. It's worth it.</p>

Favre said no. The Vikings came back and begged, and offered him $25 million bucks. Come on.

And the most important part, I think he makes the Vikings much better. That's all that really matters. It's not a team with a mediocre QB, it's a team with basically no QB, and a badass RB and a good defense. He makes them a lot better.

Need to also consider that his slide at the end of last year was due to his injuries. His arm was noticeably weaker, and the Jets should have recognized that, and put in another QB the last four games.

Only thing I have a problem with is the drama, but hey anybody in his position at his age...sees it going away, and he doesn't really want to quit.

I don't know exactly why, but I felt better about the reasons he unretired after watching that.

Could have been his daughter saying, "Daddy, I wanted you to go back one more year to win a super bowl." (I have daughters)

Or, it could be that we are roughly the same age, and I still feel like I can beat guys 10-15 years younger in almost any sport. (You know I'm right, DS.)

Either way, I've changed my mind and I'm pulling for him now. I know Brett will be glad to hear that.

I'll start off saying I've never been a Favre fan due mostly to the fact that as you said, he makes a lot of bad decisions that he gets away with because of his strong arm. I respect him and think he's one of the all time greats, but I'm sure my opinion of all this drama is influenced by my opinion of him. Anyway, that being said, my problem with it is mostly the way its covered. I fully understand the reason its done as you explained, but its ridiculous how big of a deal is made of it. But, I also think Favre feeds the media circus. Its like a never-ending circle. He started it in Green Bay when he would take every off-season to weigh retirement and drag it out all off-season. Then it moved to him retiring, then un-retiring over and over. This process has seemingly been going on for the last 10 years or so. That's where I think Favre is at fault in this. There's no reason for him to mull retirement four or five seasons in a row while with Green Bay, and if the desire to play is still there, there's no reason to keep retiring. Don't hang them up until you're sure you're ready to walk away. The last two or three years, it would have been OK for him to take the off-season to weigh his options and such, but I feel by doing it years ago with Green Bay he's used up a lot of the understanding and leeway that I would have otherwise given him. To me, it seems that this has just become like some sort of game he plays at the end of every season. At some point it gets played out and old. For me, that occured about three years ago.
