First, this is based on nothing at all but my own paranoia, but I still subscribe that something is not on the up and up. Mullen was much quieter than normal pre-Egg bowl and then he was quoted as saying the egg bowl does not have a big impact on recruiting after the fact that when he won last year he said that he hopes all the boys in MS know that this is where you come to win championships. Reading the comments coming from the Kailo camp and that Shumpert may not take an official visit with us does not bode well in recruiting. Something is going on in my opinion. The thought that keeps jumping in my mind is that he has secretly been contacted by another school for a vacancy and he just doesn’t care anymore. I just have not seen the same fire and intensity after the Alabama loss. Almost like once he realized this was not our season to move to the upper echelon he just phoned in the rest of the season. I sincerely hope I am just overreacting to an embarrassing loss to TSUN but my inner gut tells me I am not.

You can't claim it as your personal theory because coach 57 already stated the same...

You both may be on to something though

1. That's crazy talk. 2. If it happens, who cares? We're in a lot better position to hire someone now then we were in 2008. 3. If he leaves, we start fresh with a whole new staff. 4. Most of you will quit bitching about next season.

This thought has crossed my mind, but if he was leaving, don't you think he'd amp it up even more? He'd have nothing to lose because he'd be gone either way and he could show his future team and fanbase his fiery side. I just hope it's nothing to do with the NCAA investigation, but if I had to choose either him leaving or being on probation...GTFO!

Well if he's despondent over not being able to move to the upper echelon of the SEC this year then he has to look no further than the lack of upper end talent in his 2010 and 2011 recruiting classes. As an example, CJ Johnson who by all rights should have been at MSU was the best DL on the field this past Saturday night. Tyler Russell is probably still seeing him coming at him in his sleep.

My question to this...

The thought that keeps jumping in my mind is that he has secretly been contacted by another school for a vacancy and he just doesn’t care anymore.

....would be, why hasn't he left yet? There is nothing stopping him or the other school from making the move right now.

I don't think he's accepted another job elsewhere. I've thought about that, but just relegated it to paranoia. And yes his enthusiasm does seem to be down ... after the Alabama reaming. I think everybody else's was too. And it carried forward in the rest of the season. We all, and perhaps Dan too, thought we were better than we really are.

But the 4 early cupcakes will do that to a person. If we're going to schedule 4 of them (and I'd rather have no more than 3 plus 1 competitive one from a BCS conference), we need to spread them out a little so we don't get ethereal false hopes up. And that feeling was enhanced, of course, by Auburn being terrible when usually not, and Tennessee not being "Tennessee". We were victims of scheduling anomalies to a certain extent. But Ole Miss this year had better players (CJ, Moncrief, and even Wallace) than we did, particularly last Saturday, and wanted the win more than we did. We may have been somewhat complacent after three in a row.

I have a slightly different opinion

My brother, who is a Rebel, mentioned this to me and more and more it makes sense. This was the year everyone was pointing to where we were to make our move into the upper part of the SEC. When we lost to Alabama, and it was a blow out at that, that the weight of all the expectations fell on this team and thy couldn't handle it. They came out flat against TAMU an even though w played better against LSU, we were done for the year. I'm not sure what would have happened against Arkansas if they had not turned the ball over 5 times.

One thing that is not a conspiracy is that Freeze is recruiting lights out. He has sold his program to the mamas. He's very good with high school coaches. Until they can no longer sell immediate playing time, they are going to continue to land some very good classes. And now they have a staff that can do something with good classes.

I continue to believe that Mullen has a short window to cash in on his success here. It's closing. Quickly.

Edit: Freeze will get a look from AU decommit Arshad Jackson, TE from Georgia. We recruited him hard.

Think you are overselling Freeze's recruiting for the time being. Yes, they will get Nkemdiche BECAUSE Nutt got his brother and Mama wants them together not because of something specifically Freeze did. IF they get Conner which seems likely at the moment then its because of where he's from primarily. He's also getting recycled players I guess in Brassell and Liggins. Right now if players keep their commitments we have most of the best players in the state and conventional wisdom says we are in good shape for Shumpert unless he maybe he leaves for GA or something. I'm not seeing any great players Freeze is pulling in strictly on his own merit. The best thing he did for OM recruiting is to have his team this year outperform the very low expectations they started with.
