First of all, I am a long time resident of Mississippi and I, too, believe it is time to change our flag.

Now.... to my point............

If the NCAA vows to not allow championship games in Mississippi due to something like a flog, why don't they make a similar ruling that affects states that allow sanctuary states or sanctuary cities?

To my thinking the policy of those states/cities are at least as divisive as our flag.

Raise your hand if you think Logic and Debate should be required college coursework.

I tried to be cordial and merely wished to express my concern.

Obviously, by choosing to name call, Sterling doesn't feel that way.

I will try to not lose any sleep.

I was just joking around because I don't understand the hitching together of those two wagons. I'm always of the opinion that I could be wrong as well. Perhaps I missed the connection. It comes across as a "yeah but" argument and those typically go the way of "I see the atrocity of which you speak, but have you considered this other atrocity?". In the case of the other atrocity, I often find that nearly any other atrocity would fit equally well in the argument in that it typically has no correlation with the first. It's an easy trap to fall into because we all have something that really sticks in our craw and want to be heard about it. The same tendency is simply human nature, we all like for our story to be told, but we have little patience when listening to other people's stories.

This to me is part of why things don't get done. One problem gets brought up and then people try to piggyback and fix every issue that has ever bothered anyone in the history of forever. To steal from the Incredibles and others, if every issue is special- no issue is special.

We need to focus on the most important issues without diluting them.

I believe the flag is one of those important issues. It is important to the people of Mississippi and it is important for how the rest of the nation sees Mississippi.

"Whataboutism" is always a loser. Pointing to bad behavior to justify bad behavior never works. Let's fix what we can fix for us and not worry about what's going on in blue states. Let others worry about New York, California, Washington, and Oregon.

I guess I was concerned with why we are being singled out.

We're being singled out because our state flag still contains a symbol used by traitors and losers to wage war against America and then by racists and white nationalists who want to intimidate and harass our friends, family and neighbors who aren't lilly white.

Also, as others have said, our flag and the idea of sanctuary cities aren't remotely comparable. The rebel flag is used by groups that are openly hostile to others. Politics aside, sanctuary cities are at least trying to help fellow human beings. So, no, they're not the same.
