My thoughts on Riek...

He's 7-2 which you can't coach. It's a small risk to me because if he sucks, he can just be on the team and be a bench warmer with a scholarship. Like it hasn't happened before. If he turns out to be good to great, we just got a steal.

His upside potential is huge. The biggest positive from Veazey's blog for me was that the guy from IMG didn't seem to think he'd have any eligibility issues. IMG knows what the 17 they're doing, if they gave him a scholarship he's got a lot of potential. And if they are confident about his eligibility, then there should be no problem there. The only real questions are how will he do with adapting to the USA and how will he come back from his injury, which was apparently pretty bad. I'm betting that Stans will handle the adapting part pretty well. And unless the injury was just totally crippling, he should at least be a servicable college player.

I think the consensus is that since he was offered by the high-profile programs who originally persued him, he must be a tad better than Campbell (probably a huge understatement). So then would you be willing to trade Holcombe or Benock for Campbell right now? It's a no brainer.

For the video pessimists, at worst, yes, the videos linked earlier look a lot like Campbell as others have stated, but that comparison was MC as a college senior compared to this guy before any collegiate practice/experience.

Great pick up if he stays healthy.

Still a lingering question....Who is really responsible for these last two weeks? Stans himself? </p>

I assume he still needs to get better but I assume he will be a back up giving Sidney and Jarvis some rest. I can't see us playing the three bigs because we will still need to score from outside because teams will collapse on the big men. It is going to be fun to watch and I just wonder if all the Stans bashers think we would have even got a look from these kids with their so-called replacement coaches.

I agree with your sentiment about Elgin Bailey. He was the most disappointing player for me this year. For all the hate that Benock and Beckham, I thought Elgin was our least skilled guy that took the floor. If he were to leave and both of these new guys qualify, I wouldn't lose a bit of sleep.

Am I the only one thinking Riek won't play this year? It doesn't sound like he'll be ready to play by November. Sounds like a redshirt to me.

I would hate to lose any of the players that we currently have on the team for this guy ... even Riley Benock. But, that's just me.

Yes he is about 60 to 70% recovered from his injurys...
but completely wrong on having two torn acls...

Riek arrived at the Winchendon (Mass.) School last fall after leaving Our Savior New American on Long Island in a much-publicized story.</p>

But he missed games early in the season at the National Prep Showcase in Lowell, Mass. after he injured his left knee doing leg squats on a machine that was too small for him. He had the knee drained and returned to the team but then twisted his right knee in mid-January while playing at St. Thomas More against Devin Ebanks' team.</p>

He finally had knee surgery in july of last year, so he was trying to play on a torn up knee for 6 months.
