My thoughts on this coaching search.

After watching what happened when Ole Miss hired O and making it known to the public every time an offer was made and turned down made it obvious that they didn't get the first, second, third, or even fifth choices. Who really knows how many offers have been turned down so far, or even if any offers have been made? I think Byrne is handling this search in the best way possible and the fact that we haven't heard anything tells me that we're going to get a good coach, mainly b/c conference championships and bowls haven't started yet - most likely our next coach is winning wherever he may be.

Disclaimer: I compared this search to the O hire because of several reasons, one being LT's lack of giving a **** about MSU athletic success and two, everything I read points to the NCAA and BCA forcing our hand on the Croom hire. </p>

Personally, I'm still thinking its Petersen. Hope I'm right.</p>

Byrne is sneaky sneaky. Maybe he should coach the team next year at least they wont know what play we are running next.

Could just as easily mean we're getting shot down in private like Ole Miss got shot down in public. . . Not saying that's happening, but the length of time this takes has zero correlation to the quality of the result.

Actually, the only difference between the way Byrne has handled things and the way we handled things is that Byrne is using a search firm. During the Orgeron hiring process, no one in our administration ever came out publicly to say who we were going after. The only difference was, they had to do all the leg work themselves, so word got out quickly about who they had contacted and who they had interviewed. And I'm pretty sure there was never even a list of top candidates released, only speculation based on who we had interviewed.

It was never mentioned publicly whether we offered the job to anyone, as evidenced by the fact that you can't go back and make a concrete list of everyone or anyone that was offered our job besides Orgeron.

Basically, the internet made it public knowledge of who our top candidates were because it was easy to track who we were meeting with. And that's why schools use search firms these days, so that no one will know officially who you have contacted or who your top candidates are.
