9:50 mark. My question is is this a safety or not? I have a real hard time calling it a safety.

If he did not exit the end zone I would believe that would be a touchback gooms

I was at the game, and live i thought it was real close...it was initially called a touchback, and I'm really not sure how they can change that considering the back judge has goal line responsibility and no one else has a good look. Especially since the montini player was not clearly in the field i think the decision should have been touchback or momentum exception and put the ball at the 1. If the game had been closer I think the crew probably would have had an issue on their hands.

You said that a lot better than I did. I don't see how the ball was ever in the end zone and taken all the way out.

I am not a ref buy in my opinion in a playoff game, you don't make that call (safety) unless it is 100% clear the kid came out! You don't ever want the game to be decided on a call that is so close. Let the players decide the game. I would feel differently is PR tackled the kid versus him taking a knee.

It looks to me that the feet of B are on the goal line. I honestly can't tell where the ball is. If the ball was recovered in the end zone, then touchback.

That said: his step back is the new force that puts the ball in the end zone. So if the ball was recovered in the field of play, put 2 points on the board.

I saw no bag thrown.

It looked to me that the fumble put the ball in the end zone. It also looked like B had one foot in the end zone and one on the goal line. That puts him in the end zone in my mind. Very close call at normal game speed, and in that case, I'd make it a touch back.

Well I don't think this is good video of the play.

Here is what I thought I was and I was 10 feet from the play.

After the fumble #4 picks it up in the end zone, he then takes one step out of the end zone and then decides to go back into the end zone, then the whistle blows right away.

So I agree with the call that it was a safety but disagree with the quick whistle because I think #4 Pirog after going back into the end zone would have decided to run it back out again. So there was no reason for the quick whistle. In fact no whistle would have communicated to Pirog he has to run this one out because if someone touches him in the end zone it's a safety.

The play happened right in front of me. The receiver was stripped of the ball and it went into the end zone.

The montini player recovered it in the end zone but started to make an attempt to come out.

It's my understanding that the ball has to come completely out of the end zone and from what I saw it didn't.

Should've been a touchback.

I go touchback on that. Looks like the recovery is pretty clearly in EZ(all you need is the tip to break the GL to be considered in the EZ), and it doesnt look like he brings the whole ball out(coming out the whole ball needs to be beyond the line to be considered out). His feet dont matter in any instance, just position of the ball. And if in doubt Im going touchback there. BJ probably not in best position for initial score/no score by A, but seems to be in very good position by the time it becomes B's ball.

I did not know it was the ball that had to come out, I thought it was the feet. So if your correct then I agree it was a touchback.

I also had a problem with the quick whisle if the ref was thinking safety. The whistle should have never blown.

It was a CLOSE call at a minimum. Should have been obvious safety to make that kind of call. Second border line call by an IHSA ref against Montini in as many weeks. These crews should not be crewing playoffs.... neither bad call changed outcome of game but IHSA has to do better in training playoff crews when to layoff the bad call sauce.

Hey Gooms, where can I find this video? It comes up a private video on my end.
